I just traded my '99 V-10 for an '01 7.3. I have it listed in my signature. I have a couple of question. Other than a 78hp chip that I have ordered, what else are some good mods to do? I have heard to cut the cat and muffler out and run a straight pipe, is this good? Also, does the diesel weigh more or less than the V-10?

Thanks
Scott

Well, I don't know about chips, cats or mufflers, but the 7.3 diesel is a heavy engine. Weight is something in the order of 1,100lbs, about 500 lbs more then the V-10 judging by the hit in payload capacity of a V-10 vs. the Power Stroke equipped truck

DO NOT run a diablo 78 without gauges. An EGT (exhaust gas temp) at the very least, I run a boost gauge too. 1200 deg.F is as high as you'll want to let her get. Cutting out the muffler will help control the EGT's you'll get from the chip, but you should consider upgrading to a 4" system. Opening up the intake will also do wonders for lowering egt.
