"Cummins 24V vs. Powerstroke vs. Duramax!!"

Maybe I'm simplifing this too much, but if you like Fords buy a Ford, If you like Chevy buy a Chevy, ect. All three engine are good and have their own merits. The Isuzu been making diesel engines for a long time and the Chevy engine with the Allison trany will do fine. My father and several friends drive the Dodge and are very happy. Obviously there are several strong Ford/PSD fans here with lots of good experience. I think all three will give about the same level of performance and reliability. If you are a Ford fan, you will not be happy driving anything else. My diesel experience has been somewhat limited to driving my fathers diesels and owning a 1998 Jetta TDI before it was totaled. It was a great car, plenty of power and got 46mpg in the real world. I do want to purchase a SUV with a diesel, but the choices are limited to just the Excursion. Would love something like a Navigator with a diesel.

Hey! Maybe I can settle this. I own GMC and Ford Pickups. One of the Fords has the PSD(wonderful). The other has the v-10(sucks). GMC's have the 6.0L(not bad). As far as the HP and torque numbers above...don't believe em'. The v-10 is responsive off the bottom but soon falls flat on it's face and gets horrible mileage. The GMC's will outrun the v-10 in a drag race(I know I have done it).
The PSD blows em' all away!

The new 6.0 has iron heads. It also has 325 HP@3300 RPM's and 560 lb/ft@2000 RPM's. Some of the numbers going around on the internet are old numbers, 325/560 are the current Ford specs. Something else that I am sort of tired of hearing is that this is a high RPM engine or a screamer. The HP rating is simply in place to be the highest in it's class and really means nothing. How many people casually cruise at 3300 RPM's down the highway (don't admit it if you do!)? The torque curve is broader than that of the 7.3. It actually is at about the same power around 1600 RPM's as the old 7.3 and climbs to peak at 2000 RPM's.

I've seen the engine run on the dyno and it is a kick a$$ SOB!! The official numbers are 325 HP and 560 ft.lb. of torque at peak torque (about 2000 RPM) but once it gets enough run time on it to be broken in it is really about 340 HP and 570 ft.lb. and these are regular production engines!!
If you've been waiting for the new Power Stroke Fords with the new Powertorque 5 speed automatic transmission, I think you are going to be pleasently surprised with the 2003 offering.

I Did Research For A 1989 Dodge Cummins, And Was Suprised What You Could To "Bomb" The Truck. You Change The Air Cleaner To A Megacannon Cleaner, And Get A Boost From That. Upgrading Injectors. Adding A Intercooler. Automatic Tranny Is Crap (727 Gets Eaten By The Torque) The 5 Speed Needs To Be Rebuilt Before You Hop Up The Speed. I Could Go On & On!
