any tips or info?
interchangable parts? What types/yrs ect.? Any tips for removing oil pan without pulling engine?
After buying our van I went online to search several sites for a 1978 Ford E150.
Results!! 1 owned in BC and 1 on e-bay.!! ONLY 2 on entire internet? !!
Are all the dinasaurs(?) dead?

There are alot of these engines still around. Try calling a few salvage yards in your area.
I know with the fuel injected models, you have to remove the upper intake maniold so you'll have enough clearance to get the pan out. after you take off the manifold and loosen motor mounts, jack up the engine about 2-3 inches. Be sure to put a block of wood between jack and oil pan when jacking. The exhaust will have to be dropped too. After you jack it up put a block of wood on each side of engine to support it's weight.
You have to drain oil, take out pan bolts, then with pan floating free, take of the pick-up tube and strainer. It's tricky but doable. If you just need a gasket..no need to take out the oil pick up tube.
I'm pretty sure the F150, and E150 take the same engine. In other words, if you get a 351 out of a pick-up It should fit in there fine. If keeping the carb you'll have to change intake manifolds.
Thats if the replacement engine is fuel injected.
You can find these engines in truck trader mags and want ads too.
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger...We're all a little upset about Ford's crappy oil pan.
Good luck
2) Does a '78 E 150 351w have
interchangable parts?
3) What types/yrs ect.?
The drivetrain/chassis parts interchange...for the most part. The vans ran more years than the trucks did of any given chassis. I forget exactly what years interchange, but the vans with the '70's truck chassis ran well into the 80's.2)
With what??? '73 to '79 trucks??? Yes. The '70's trucks did not come with a 351w though.3) Salvage yards are your best bet with interchangeability. They can almost always tell you what years and models interchange with other years and models.
