Biggest tire size info needed

Per the "book" @ Discount Tire and Les Schwab, 93-94 Rangers w/4x4, stock alloy wheels, and stock height will work with 31 X 10.50 in 15". I've been running them for about 120K miles now; with the steering wheel fully cranked to either end there will be a very slight rubbing when you drive over, say a small ditch (24" wide X 12" deep) at an angle. Not really a concern since the tires aren't hitting the body not is this an everyday maneuver, but this demonstrates the tire size noted is the upper limit unless mods are done.

My 93' STX 4x needed a 2 1/2" lift in order to clear 31x10.50x15's on 8" wheels. With another 3" it could easily clear 33'. I now own a 99' 2x Sport, stock I ran a set of 235/75/15's (same as on a stock 4x), with no clearance issues. With a 3" body lift I am running 31x10.50x15's on 8" wheels. I am guessing with some minor trimming from the spoiler/front bumper or a pre-runner style bumper in place of my stock one I can run a 10" wheels with some 31x13.50x15's (MT Baha Belteds for the sand), thats kind of my next mod when I have the money to blow, so I have been checking into it a little bit. From what I can tell and from discussing it with the guys that work at one of the off-road shops where I live, with another 3" of lift (spindles) I could go with 10" wheels and 33x12.50x15's. Ok from here I could still go another 3", some kind of fad-tech spring/ball joint kit????? Anyway you can run 35's with this setup (3" body and 6" suspension). Anyway that's what I know off hand, if you want something specific ask and I can check it out with the shop I use here, am good friends with the guys there.

On a stock 2001+ 4WD (or a 2WD Edge, which has the same ride height), on 15 inch rims and with the mudflaps removed, a 33x10.5" will fit for on-road/light off-road with no rubbing, as will a 32x11.5". I have personal experience with the 32x11.5 (on 15x8" rims w/3.75" backspacing), and during more strenuous off-roading they periodically hit the front edges of the plastic fender lips on all wheel wells (front and rear), and one can expect to shear off a few of the plastic push-pins that hold the lips in place. The push-pins cost 30 cents each, and I had to replace six of them after my last off-road trip. Other than that, I experienced no damage from tire clearance issues. With a lift, or even a modest torsion bar crank, the problem will be greatly reduced if not eliminated entirely--I'll let you know how reduced after my next excursion, as I've raised my front end 3/4ths of an inch with a torsion bar crank (which hasn't impacted the ride quality at all, as far as I can tell).

Stoge - as i said no flaming intended, and I was not trying to be "snippy". I use my present ranger (as well as the previous one), off-road on a very regular basis, this is why when I set them up for their intended purpose rubbing is not an opption in my book, thats not functional. Off road tires are too expensive to ruin, my truck is maintained, inside and out, IMHO tires rubbing on fenders can ruin it's looks, especially as often as I have to use my truck for this purpose, so I avoid rubbing tires at all cost. I can't afford to rag my truck out every two years, I have to make it last. 33's on a stock edge will rub a little, the tires will be stuffed, not a real good plan if you plan on doing any serious or regular off-roading. Wheel clearance and wheel travel are both very important things to have in any type of off-roading. You really need to lift an edge 3" to properly clear 33's, especially if you want to put them on 10" wheels and take full advantage of 12 1/2" wide tires. Once again, I am not trying to be snippy, this just happens to be subject matter I have a wealth of knowledge on. Please don't think I am trying to slam you or argue with you, I am a serious off-roader and when I put something together, I like to make sure it's for more than just looks, it has to function properly as well. If you want any specific info, on a specific truck let me know and I will check with the friends at the shop here, they are very reputable and do this much more than I do, but I do check out most of the rangers that go through their shop, I like to see what other guys have done to make their rangers big, and what it takes to get them on difrent larger tire sizes.

I currently have 32 11.50's on my 93 XLT 4x4. No rubbing at any articulation turned at any angle, but they do come close so you will want to make sure your plastic wheel wells are held in tight. Mine were a bit loose so I used a zip tie to hold them back and works fine. Have put 15k miles on and never rubbed since.
