Drag strip times?

Howdy ladys and gents,
I've got a '99 ranger 4.0 slushbox yadda yadda yadda...anyways, what I'd like to know is does anyone have an idea about what kind of 1/4 mile time I may expect? It's totally bone stock and I think I may be able to get high 16's outta it if I can launch it right. I looked at the dragtruck website and it really didn't give me much of an idea of what to expect. Any help would be appreciated and if you want, tell about YOUR drag times or experiences.
Thanks again,

Seany

Don't know my drag times, but my most proud moment was racing a 5.0 F-150 and winning, twice. I think my 0-60 time is between 12-14 seconds. Not great, but it's fast for a 4cyl.

I know a buddy of mine though this is a 01 Ranger(207 hp)... (4wd and a slushbox)...that ran a 15.0...and alls he did was take off his tailgate and took out his airfilter...lol...I thought those were pretty good times...is that pretty typical for an 01 4.0L...

Yeah about the 5.0 F150...another friend has a 95 F150...(I used to own a 99 Ranger 4 banger)...and I'm pretty sure by the feel of it that I could have tooken him...those 5.0 F150's are land yachts...ha ha...

I would guess in the 17-18s. The 4.0 has good torque down low, but doesn't have enough HP to give great times. A lot depends on gears, 4x4 or 4x2, and cab/box configuraton. If you have a 2wd you might see 16's. If you ever take it out and run it, let us now what ya did.

Dang.... my 4 banger does 0-60 in about 20 sec. (if I'm lucky). Course, I am VERY easy w/ 'er. It's also a 2.3 (not that 200 cc's would make much of a difference).

im gonna call B/S on the 4x4 4.0 running 15.0.... so your gonna tell me that his ranger with the tailgate removed (does nothing) and removing his airfilter got him faster than a new mustang v8? i dont think most people realize how fast even a 15 flat is? my 95 trans-am v8 is running 14.9... and i have never had any truck (lightning excluded) keep up with me on the streets..... no way

Actually, I have seen some very fast 4.0's. Especially these guy's that have swapped post 97 (Duratec) E code motor (205hp/245ft/#) from an Explorer. Of course this wasn't completely stock, but a few hundred bucks (less than $1000) you can make those 4.0's run VERY fast. Anyways, perhaps a 2wd 4.0 (X code) could run a high 15 or so, but it is a little hard to believe that 4wd could have done it. Man, isn't the new mustang supposed to run faster than that? I haven't seen any figures, but I was thinking around high to mid 14's? Is that the GT I assume?

Totally Roosted - Well you can believe what you want...I saw it...and I was just putting what he did...never said they made a difference...and also an lt1 95 should run low 14's...get your car checked out...do you have a 6spd...you may not be shifting at the best...what was your mph? Oh and by the way again the 01 Ranger (single cab) gained two tenths by taking out his air filter...lol...he sold it and got an 02 5spd GT...

Traxxis - There you go you've seen it...I honestly didn't believe it when I seen it...I literally remember looking at the "board" again to see the time...the mph wasn't the best but he got that time...Oh and the 99+ 4.6L Mustangs SOHC (only in GT's) gets anywhere from high 13's to low 14's...depending on whether manual or auto...

I know my stangs...lol...I used to own an 2000 GT...sold it and bought a 5.0...and am now looking for a 98+ Ranger...

funny 4.0

hey 5.0, did u read the right board? i can tell u thats its near impossible to 15.0 with a 4.0 and ur friend definitely DID NOT gain 2 tenths with no air filter..if he had an aftermarket K&N maybe he would..tailgate? hmm..100 lbs at most will do pretty much nothing except add tire spin since the backend is now lighter..if a stock 3.0 can run low 17's at best, no way a 4.0 can run 15.0...ask ur friend for the time slip cuz thats one def worth saving

well the 14.9 is at a 3k ft. elevation... corrected time is 14.6... my t/a is bone stock with 144k miles.... not bad for a stock automatic car with 14.9.... and i am a 1/4 mile king in my valley.... thats what i do, thats what people know me for..... my daily driven 443rwhp and 452ft.lbs or toque that i personally built myself is what made me king of everyone under 30 in my valley... i know my 1/4 mile.....

im not saying a 4.0 cant do it... but noway is a stock 4x4 ranger with only the tailgate removed and no air filter ran a 15.0 the stock stangs are ok.... but at LACR the track i race at in palmdale... the average time of a stock (other than a k&n and maybe a flowmaster only) were pulling average 15.2's some were 15's flat some were 15.4's depends on the miles and the overall condition of the car, tires are an issue too but 15.0 on an otherwise stock 4x4 ranger sounds pretty hard to believe...

the local die hard ranger guys in my valley (dezertrangers) are fast and have had their pre-runners at the track in mid 14's....... and thats fast considering that you could put a jump in the middle and they could still take it.....

Oh this took place in Arkansas...I think in this particular area it is maybe 500ft above sealevel...

Okay here is what the guy did (best friend of mine)...he isn't going to lie...he did buy it used...(it did have a k&n air filter in it) he vacuumed it out...lol...took off the tailgate, took out the air filter (actually seen him gained the two tenths by doing that...well 1.8), took out spare, and he put some different tires on it...they were bigger I think...can't remember it was late last fall...It was an 01, 4.0, single cab, 4wd, driver weighs probaby around 160-170lbs...HE HAD THE TIMESLIP ALSO...but the "board" is when I first saw it...I remember he got a 2.4 60ft...and he crossed at 88 or something???...if it is one thing I'm not sure about is the mph...can't remember...????

I actually raced him on the street (I run 13.5-13.6's on average in a bolton 93 LX 5.0 Mustang 5spd)...and I got him by a very solid 6-7 cars to a 100 or so...works out to be about right...

I'm no newbie to the drag strip either...I go every weekend its open...early April to Late October and a couple TNT's in the winter...I run usually every other time I go...just for something to do...my car will be modified heavily once I find me a dang Ranger...been looking for the right price for a while...

In short though...I do to find it to be quicker than what it should be...but I'm by far not someone that just makes up anything...I did see it...would the bigger tires make it run quicker...??? My friend said he didn't ever spin...he said it barked but that was it...

YEEHAW!!!
I finally ran my truck at the strip! I clipped a best e/t of 16.7 at 80 mph, and that was with a weak *** 1.534 second reaction time...I eventually got it down to a 0.54 but the truck was too hot and traction was an issue, but whatever...I know what I can and can't beat (like a lightning for example, that was run #3). Now I know what I want for the truck, like a new gear set, new intake, headers, cat backs and a new chip...think it'll get me into the 15's? Oh and I have on question for you guys, if I were to keep my 3.55 gear, should I go with bigger or smaller tires to get the same effect of a gear switch?

Is that a 2wd or 4x4. Just curious, I'd like to run mine, but I'll have to wait till later this summer. Thanks for posting back. Smaller tires would raise the effective gear ratio and give you better acceleration although it might be a bit harder to keep hooked up.

My Ranger is a 2wd supercab. Its got the 3.55 rear end what I think is an open carrier. I intend to eventually just replace small things like the throttle body, a K&N filter, a higher flow exhaust and maybe some better tires. If I take it to the strip tonight I'll fill it with premium and then an octane booster and just see if it helps me any. I'll be sure to post any new best e/t's on here if I get any.
