92 Explorer won't start
I have a 92 Ford Explorer that refuses to start. Battery and cables appear to be ok. I cleaned both and retightened. The headlights will turn on so I think I have plenty of battery. It's a manual transmission, I depress the clutch and turn the key and I get a single click sound from under the hood. All instramentation lights turn on, including check engine and stay on. No warning that something was going bad, just would not start.

Battery is still suspect. Voltage should be up. Try a jump and if no change you only have the following items left:
1. Clutch triple function switch
2. Starter relay
3. Starter motor
Don't forget to check your wires to all of these items!

I had the same problem on my 92... what it turned out to be was the main cable that runs from the relay on the wheel well down to the starter. There should be no more then about a .5 ohm resistence through the wire. Mine had a 300 ohm resistence. The funny thing is, I never had a problem with it starting until it wouldn't start. This is a common problem on the Gen 1 Explorer, so this would be the first thing to check out.
