You're right, it will remove defects and you're lucky you are using a hardener or you would be waiting weeks.
I've never tried it on hardened enamel so I'll just tell you what I do with urethane.
After painting, I wait 24 hours and then I sand. After sanding, I let the car sit for a week before I buff. This seems to work best for me but others don't wait quite as long.
Anyone out there worked with hardened enamel and can help out ?
For enamel with hardner, I would wait 2 to 3 weeks before I would try to sand and buff. It still needs time to dry and harden properly.
If u just have minor imperfections, try using 1000 grit. That should be plenty fine and yet be course enough to remove any dirt/orange peel.
Be very careful when sanding. Make sure u have plenty coats of paint (3 medium coats when properly sprayed is more than enough). Then use caution when sanding/buffing. Enamel sands very easy and same with buffing. U do to much of either and u just might have to repaint!
