4.6 Surging
Surging and hard to start somethings. When the engine is cold I have to give it a little gas "only sometimes" and then it starts with a puff of smoke. Smells like raw fuel. Seems to be loading up? 110k on engine just did a major tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, all fluids, and injector cleaning at Ford dealer. The problem was there before tune up. I tried to do a search but didn't know what some of the parts were just looking for some current and sound advice.
Thanks,Dan

Where is the IAC? I guess a local auto parts store could check the codes. Its warming up know I can work on vehicles just not sure of the newer ones. I had the dealer do my tune up because of the weather don't think I'll let them do that again. I ask them to check everything because of the miles on the truck. Thought they would be more willing to go the extra mile knowing they would of had a little more income.

Can Clean
I had a problem with starting also. Idleing was an issue. So here is my experience.
- If you buy a new Idle air control valve, the part is called a motor. I had trouble the first time a parts store tried to find it for me. I forgot the exact name that ford uses but it helps to know it.
- They vary in price a lot depending on where you go. Ford wants over 100.00 for it and I found one for 43.00 at NAPA.
- I cleaned mine the first time at 56,000 miles and all was well. I just shot a little SuperClean in the hole and rinsed it out with water. Blew it out with compressed air and re-installed. Engine ran fine. (Make sure when you re-install it that you install the little piece of hose that brings it back into the Air intake system or the truck most likely will not run. Mine did not)
- I did finely change mine at 140,000 miles because I have a miss in my truck at the moment that I cannot find. Cleaning mine got me another 60,000 miles or so.
Anyway that is my story.
