I changed intakes on my 390 and now when i crank it, it has a loud i mean loud suction sound like a huge vacum leak, and barely runs, the only thing i can figure is the intake i took off didnt have the large hole in the back side , but this one does. This one is a 64' and the one i took off was a 65'. Any ideas suggestions? anything?? Could it be somewere else? I kinda need to fix it fast
Well heck.... if I got to do that I might as well go ahead and buy an Edlebrock, least Ill save my back lol
True!...might be the way to go.
TIP: A lot of opinions on whether to have the cork gaskets up front and in back, but if you do go that route...then place a rather large dab of sealant on the edges (totaling four).
It has been my experience that when using the big heavy cast iron manifold it is as likely to have a leak as not. Once you get the Edelbrock your chances of getting it right the first time go up dramatically.
Im going to try this cast iron, one more time but this time im going to sit it with a engine hoist maybe it will work a lil better this go round, and on the gaskets the side that has the factory bead on it, goes to the head, right?
Well I put the cast one back on, got everything right fired it up sounded good, look back im blowing water out my exhaust I don't think I can win for loosing here...........some one wanna just flat out tell me what Im doing wrong or how I need to do it
How much water? Water is a natural byproduct of the internal combustion motor and does come out of your tail pipe. Now if we are talking large amounts, your motor should not be running right. Of course, head gasket would be my next thought.
Well its not pouring out but its enough to make the ground wet, but the thing runs smooth everything checks good on it , 50 psi oil, the water coming out has no smell to it no leaks , maybe its nothing to worry about, it just used to never do this before, but thanks for all the help you guys are givin me I no Im askin alot of questions.
You are probably ok. Just check the gauges (oil and water) and look for leaks. Do not know how long you have had that tank of gas, but you may want to fill it up and take it for a nice steady drive.
