Gas Mileage Problem
I'm getting 11 if I'm lucky, and that's driving conservatively. Is there anything I should check or do to get me up to the 15/16 mpg mark? Or should I be happy with the 11??
I'm afraid there may be something off with the engine that is making me get worse gas mileage than everyone else (although it seems to be running great).
I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.
My 2000 f250, CC, 4x4, SWB, V-10 has 3:73 gears and I get 11 to 13 for everyday driving,(fairly agressive). My best in the city is 14 avg. for one tank.15-16 on the highway, empty not towing. You didnt say how many miles on your truck, I averaged 9-10 until I hit 2000 miles I have 3000 now and my mileage seems to have stabilized. Must be broke in.
I put a K&N air filter and that seemed to get me about a mile per gallon improvement with a noticable improvement in throttle response. You might try this. Good luck, Congrats on your choice of truck.

Which year end do you have? That may make a difference. I was doing some research on gas mileage before I ordered my 2000 V10. I wanted the five speed and limited slip diff. therefore I had to get the 4.30 gears. I was concerned about the gas mileage of trucks with these gears, but a couple of guys I talked to with these gears were getting around 14-15 mpg while most of the 3.73 guys were getting around 11-13. Maybe it was a fluke, but I don't know. Guess I'll have to find out for myself

Where did you pick up your K&N filter?? I tried to pick one up around a month ago and was told that they weren't available for the 2000 f250 and wouldn't be until after Christmas??
By the way, at a stop and in park, where does your truck idle?? My truck idles at around 800rpms. I was wondering if maybe this had something to do with the gas mileage issue.
My 68 MPH Highway (No Towing) is 16.6 MPG.
My Local is 13.6 MPG.
You can see all the tanks of fuel at: http://ic.net/~wawii/MPG
Hope this helps.

More than likley the 99 filter is the same as the 2000. All 97, 98 & 99 Ford 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L use the same filter. F150's on up. It should cost between $30-$45.
