modest 360

My 68 f-100 360 is a stock daily driver. Sometimes I haul a two horse trailer with it. I am interested in external eng. mods to improve overall performance. Can anyone recommend the appropriate carb, intake, and or ignition components, that would result in the best hp gains/economy? Also, does anyone know where the spare tire was mounted on this model? Thanks

I believe the spare tire was mounted in the front drivers side of the bed. It was on my 70 model anyway. A stock 4bbl or edelbrock performer intake would be great with a 600cfm holley. The exhaust is the first place you want to hit though. Headers and dual exhaust will get you more power an efficiency than any intake/carb combo. As for the ignition you can get a pertronix ignitor for about $65 and that will replace your points. It takes about 5 minutes to do the conversion if you are taking your time and it converts back just as easy. Get a pertronix or MSD coil to go with it. Run plain jane autolite plugs gapped at about .045.

You probably have horrible gears in the rear end. Upgrading to 3.70 gears can make it seem like you dropped a 390 in there.

I agree. Anything more is going to increase HP at the expense of economy.
