RAck and Pinion
2004 f150 scab, built date January 04.
Truck has 2,900 miles, never offroad or crazy drivig.
Dealer says it needs 2 front tires and the rack and pinion needs to be repalced also. Whe I asked as to why these components went bad with only 29 hundred miles the answer was that since it is a new design things will go bad.
The a/c control module was already replaced.
And also the car shakes at idle as if it had a misfire, the auto technician at the dealer cannot find anything wrong with it. Has anyone else had any problems with rough idle with either the a/c on or off and also whrn in gear or park, and also with the engine cold and up to temp?
thanks,
Robert

Follow up on the AC system. I have had it back about one month now from the shop. They worked on it for two days. It now works as good as any F150 with EATC controls.
They replaced several parts. The main culprit that kept the system from working consistently was the low pressure switch on the compressor. That switch would argue with the EATC in the dash which was also replaced, with a new one and reprogrammed.
It was that low pressure switch that was always affected by the “bumps” and “turns” in the road – sometimes it would cool and sometimes it would not.
When set to full manual max cold, recir, it can get really cold after about 20 miles of driving, still takes a very long time to cool down. And at least now it keeps working.
If you are using the EATC part of it, it will do ok, when set on 68 degrees most of the time, but not always. The actual temperature inside the cab is closer to 74, part of the reasons are lack of solar glass, and they fact that the weather stripping around the doors and windows is substandard. Add those two shortcomings together and the AC/Heat system does not have a chance to do its job.
Overall, this ac/heat system is still way short of what is required, and does not even come close to match the capacity of any other vehicles or the F250 or F350.
I now have 5,400 miles on the truck. Here are the major short comings of this vehicle.
1. Substandard solar glass
2. Substandard front seats – go sit in the Lariat F350 that is just now being made for a real seat!
3. Substandard power seats – full power not available
4. Substandard radio – audiophile is POS
5. Substandard weather stripping lots of wind nose and water leaks around all four doors. Hot air just blows in the cab – what a joke!
6. Substandard AC/Heat system – same thing go test the F350 it works!
7. Substandard horsepower and torque, well overrated by Ford.
Will I buy another F150 – NO. Not unless they fix the problems above which are major to me.

I have a supercab fx4 without the climate control and I also have noticed that my A/C doesn't blow as cold as it should. I live in Utah and we are already in the 90's and I have to have the a/c on full blast to even get fanned. I will probably be taking it in soon, now that I have read all of your posts, thanks and good luck.

Wow I owned a 02 larait f-250.
A/c is about the same
Seats in my 150 lariat are as comfortable as the 250
04 is ten time quieter,,as quiet as my 04 a-6 audi
audiophile is very nice,,,beast factory system I ever owned ( I have had a lot in my life time...over 20)
My 250 had a v-10 and I am happy with the 5.4
I don't know why you are complaining about the glass
I can live with the half power seats
MOST OF ALL THIS TRUCK IS A SMOOTH AS A BABY"S A** AND HANDLES LIKE IT IS ON RAILS!!!!!!!
