I have a 83 Bronco and I am replacing my 83 300 i6 with a 94 300 i6 I have the complete engine, harness and computer. My question is do I need to switch from the c6 trany to a newer one and what problems can I expect in the conversion.
If the 94 motor was a manual tranny or an AOD, I don't think you'll have any problems, but if it was computer controlled. Like an E40d or AODE you might. Someone else will have to jump in here.
Actually, even with an electronic controlled transmission being expected, it will work just fine.
However, the ECM will spit codes indicating the transmission is not paying attention to it, and if you're good with that, enjoy!
Another option, is to use the 89 computer and EFI on the newer engine, swapping the intake and sensors over if they are radically different. Then it will operate as the original engine did, just newer. I'd try to go with the later year ECM if possible, because somewhere in the early 90's there was a minor code change with the intention of better mileage, better emissions, which is never a bad thing. I believe, possibly incorrectly, this occured for the 93 model year. Its been a while since I've looked at EEC stuff.
