My lights stay on in the interior and the running boards after the engine has been shut off. I had to pull the fuse to get them to go out after they stayed on for an hour. The door ajar light is on also. Please help

Ahhhhh the Ford Light Issue. Have not had that yet on my 98 Expy, but we DID have it on the 98 Taurus. I'm going on the assumption that you might have figured out which door is causing the problem. If not, repeat it for each and every door.

Get a decent Silicone Lube Spray (WD-40 works OK, though I used the Prestone Spray). Open the door, give the door latch mechanism inside the door a good 3-4 second drenching. Open and Close the door about 10 times. Done!

Again, not sure about the Expy, but I know for a fact that the door-latch sensors in the taurus act up. My wife's car did the same and I pulled the interior light relay for almost a year until I tried this and it suprisingly worked. Repeat the lube every oil change and hopefully it will work for you!

Talking Yep...

The ole lights on ... this is what I did to my expo. 4X4 EB..

I tried the W.D. but it only came back a few days later. I had the door apart (driver) checked every concievable culprit, no cure, I got accustom to hearing " your running board lights are on"!

Go to Advance and buy electrical CRC contact cleaner (FLAMABLE ONLY) it's better than non.

Spray your driver side good ...you will see the little plastic wheel at the latch area.. this is where you need to spray. I do all doors the same way to be certain I get the right one. The back as well.

You don't have to do anything else, go in the house and forget it...on your next trip to town go ahead and look back to check (I know you do)

I can hear you now "YAHOOOO"! You may need to do this every month or so untill... walla ! Mine acts up about every four months or so .

One light spray now does it. driver side only.

Im concerned that the battery saver relay didnt cut the lamps after the normal timeout. I would replace it since it appears to be failing, just in case your problem comes back.

My neighbor has an Expedition and a few minutes ago we were outside talking about how his running board lights and interior lights stayed on. I came inside, did a search on the Expedition and found this thread.

I grabbed my can of silicone spray, got my neighbor, and we sprayed his locks. Seems it was the passenger door that was the problem.

The guys and gals of this forum are the BEST! And Thank You Ken.

PS: I told my neighbor where I found the info and I bet he signs up!

Lights

I would have to say if it wasn't for this site I feel the dealer would have charged me a lot of money to fix it. I also want to say thanks for the replys to my rear windsheild wiper not working. It was the relay inside the hatch.
THANKS

Randy

WD'ed all the doors, hatch, and hatch glass 18 months ago. That gremlin hasn't returned. This site saved me a lot of aggravation.

Your local dealer would like you to mail them a check for 2 hours labor and material every time you fix something via this forum and please make sure that it is sent within the 30 day window as to avoid late fees.
