Exaust Help

Hello, could someone help me on some questions I have about my 93 lightning. I would like to ditch those exuast resognators, but there are air tubes from the smog pump in them. Any ideas? Can I get rid of the smog pump without turning the check engine light on? I live in an area where there are no emission restrictions.

Those are cats, not resonators. Don't bother removing the pump or emissions equipment. It will not really gain you anything and it will polute the air more and is still illegal. What you can do, is replace those cats with hi-flow ones. Summit racing or similar has them for about 60 bucks.

Gt221 and I seem to be at odds on the emissions issue. But oh well, here's the non-tree-hugger's side.

Bassani does make and off-road H-pipe without catalytic converters that is suppose to bolt right up. I assume they have the fittings for the air lines as well. I'm looking at getting one next month.

I continue to run the smog pump on my truck because I have over 135k on the odometer. The smog pump pulls a vaccum on the crankcase which helps keep the piston rings sealed. Many racers are using vacuum pumps now so they can run less ring tension and free up some horsepower. If your engine is relatively new, you my free up 2-5 hp by not turning the pump, but the performance difference you gain would like running on 2 full tanks of fuel versus 1/4 of a tank. Ditch the cats and keep the pump is my $0.02.
