I decided to go with a stock 4 barrel manifold. Everyone here said that the stock manifolds were just as good as an Edelbrock performer, just heavier. Stock manifolds go for about $25 and another $100 for a rebuilt carb. Leaves me the money for a set of rebuilt heads. I get where I wanted to go for less money.
I actually got an offer of two, one from a friend of a friend and one from a not so local guy on-line through e-mailing about FE engines. Networking is everything is what I am finding out. We are all over but you just don't know. Probably walking by people in Walmart that have the pieces you need in their garage. LOL
The problem with intakes is that they weigh like 75 pounds and are expensive to mail, so a local dealer, either a junkyard or private seller is the best way to go.
Should. I have a holley stock, original equipment from the Ford gods themselves. My dad also had one with a holley on it. And my Ford service manuals have a chapter on rebuilding holleys.
I plan on using a stock Autolite 4 barrel so I don't know. You also have to be aware that there are several different stock manifolds from like '59 to '72 (guessing on 4 barrel models). There were some different holes in the older manifolds for oil filler and a downdraft tube on the pre-PCV cars.
Cars only had FEs until '72, that is hwere they are getting thir numbers. Trucks went until '76 with FEs. You should be good to go, mine is a '76 with a stock 360. The stock manifold and carb setup is my future. I've been told by more than one person that I should have no problems other than "might as wells" (might as well replace the timing chain, lifters, cam, oil pump......).
