Exclamation EFI to carb, how to keep fuel pumps to stay on!?

I cant seem to keep the fuel pumps to stay on. I bought a carbed 302 motor with a bunch of go fast goodies after my 1995 300-6 decided to throw a rod through the block, I wanted to keep my dual tanks for convenience so i didnt get the mechanical fuel pump, instead i got a fuel pressure regulator with a return. All that i have left is to trick the computer into keeping the fuel pumps on once the truck is started. How do I go about doing that?

I hope you got a good regulator. Going from 60 to 100 psi to < 10 is a hell of a cut. find the fuel pump relay and the wire that kicks the relay on need to be jumped to one that is hot off the key.

The safest way would be to rig some relay off of the oil pressure sender so that the pumps would not run with the engine off. I would take the computer out all the way since it is useless now. Otherwise, just do as doccamel said about finding a power wire that is hot with ignition on.

Blurry brings up a valid point. Without the motors input an electronic automatic will be decidedly not a happy camper.

You could get a manual valve like the old trucks had (73-79) and run both fuel lines to that, and just manually pick which tank you wanted to use. As to regards for the fuel guage, just switch the switch on the dash to the tank you are using. I have a single tank on my 86, which was a fuel injected 302 and went to a carbed windsor and was able to cut one wire on the sender and the fuel pump would not run, I left it in the tank and the mechanical pump sucks right through it.

Fuel pumps

I just read that the pumps from 82-84 will work in the tank(s), and I would ?? as to weather an 87 would work as well since it was carbed also. Or so I'm told.
I plan on checking it out since I have a 92' E4OD, that I'm putting a modified-carbed 351W into and am getting a tranny controler from "BAUMANENGINEERING.COM" to control it.

Good Luck, HAL_419

I've heard good things about those controllers.
