on my truck i have been wondering if there is suppose to be a hose connected to this valve or not...it is part of the air pump system and it just blows air out of it. also i have a little rust on my trans cross member...is this a big problem or is it ok. pictures of both item are in my gallery. thanks for the help.
my 91 is the same . if i can explain it correct it should only blow out when the cats and engine are cold. this is so the cats heat up quicker so they can do there job on reducing pollution. once the cats are up to temp the valve will close and this air will be pumped into the exhaust. if the cats cool off as you are running the valve will shut and this will start to pump air out of this tube. i believe the round canister that the air comes out of is a one way valve so dirty air will not be sucked in to the air pump.
any rust on your cross member is probaly surface rust , but it is thick enough material that you'll be long gone from this world before it ever rust into. but you can easily remove it, degrease it, brush it good with a wire brush and paint it with semi-gloss black engine paint or rust-oleum. DW
