I am working on a 1976 ford F series truck it has had a work bed put on it and none of the parts are the original. There is nothing on the truck that works right. I have rebuilt the carb and got the rest of the motor to run right it is a 390 four wheel drive. I have to rewire the whole thing from lights to wipers and have not been able to find a diagram to do it .
The wiring harnesses from 75-77 are pretty much the same.
Newer than that more options are available through the main underdash harness.
The colour coding of the actual wiring is the same
I don't know what your thoughts are toward re-wiring but there are choices.
Maybe you could less us know what they are ?
red, i know that eventually, i will re-wire my entire truck....eventually..just some advice..make a wiring diagram of your own when you do re-wire...just incase...alos, good luck and have a blast...

Hello, This is only the second time I have posted. The 76 I have has a 390. I bought it for 200$. It was a farm truck and was not taken care of at all. I have rebuilt the carb and finaly got it purring like a kitten. I now need to tackle the wiring as I said in my earlier post. Half the wires have bare spots and the other half are just cut. The only lights I have are the dash and the right turn signal. I have never had to tackle a wiring problem this big and want any kind of advice or support I can get. Should I get a new wiring harness and start from there or cut and splice my way to a workable system. Mechanically the truck is sound it is four wheel drive and every thing works fine. Electronically it is total mess.
Hmmmm, I think all depends how long you want this truck, how much time & Money you want to put into it.
Red, I would suggest finding another complete harness.
That is what I would do if I was you.Just make sure the harness is in great condition.
Take a Multi-meter with you to check for continuity for all the circuits.
Now...As you remove every wire from from it's connection label it with adhesive tape writing the part/location it goes to.
When you get your wiring harness out that has of course been properly labeled you can lay the replacement down beside it and start cleaning and reworking every connection.
Clean and solder every connector. Use heatshrink tube on any splices. Use silicone dielectric grease on all connections b4 you plug anything together. Do not use crimp connectors if you can help it. If you must use a crimp connector; crimp it with the proper tool and solder it. If you can't solder it, dip the end of the stripped wire in dielectric grease b4 crimping.
Scrap the split loom tubing and get black spiral wrap from Radio Shack #278-1638 or Walmart #4322500114 or available from www.microplastics.com
Hey thanks for the advice. Any suggestions on where to find a new harness. I would really like to get this thing up and running to use as a work truck for my real estate buisness.
