Post New F150 price in 1974

Gentlemen,
I usually hang my hat over at Team Chevelles, but I have a Ford pickup question that possibly someone here could answer. I'm the original owner of a '70 Chevelle, and I had a contractor out to do some work for me today. He asked me what I had paid for the Chevelle in 1970 and I told him $3000.00. He replied that he thought that was very expensive because he only paid $1600.00 for a brand new Ford F150 in 1974. I asked him if he still had any of the stuff he was smoking back then! Does anyone here know what a new F150 ws going for back then? We have a friendly bet going on this. Thanks guys. Man. I gotta say...I really like that new 2005 Mustang! (Mid life crisis!)

$1500.00 for a 1974 F-100 is a cause for a "What are you smoking alert" A fleet purchase wouldn't net an F100 in 1974 at such a low price.

My dads 1976 F-100 Custom with NO options at all , stickered for $3600.00 new. I remember this very well..cuz when he purchased it....I was approaching car buying age , thus I paid close attention to things of this nature.

I would venture that a nicely decked out F-100 in 1974 would have been in the $4500 to $5500 range....a sparsley equipped Custom about a grand or so less.

Thanks for the quick answer! I have some old Life and Look magazines buried somewhere at home. I'll have to see if I can dig them up and see if there are any ads in them for the F150. Thanks again.

To answer this sensibly, you need to let us know what Trim-line & options are on this truck.

My 78 Ranger Explorer with hardly any options listed retail for $9250.00

I have the bill of sale on my truck that was bought new and it was around $4500.00.

it's a 1976 F-100 Ranger with a 302, a/c, p/s, heavy duty bumper. It does have the chrome trim on it. I think it might be a custom. I think it has that on the glovebox. Can you imagine a truck tripling in just two years? If I was smoking crack I guess so!!

My dad paid $4300 for his '73 F350 Super Camper Special Ranger XLT that he special ordered in October of '72. It is fully loaded. $1600 for an F150 seems a little low, but if it was just a custom 4x2, it could be possible. FWIW, cars went up in price almost 40% from 1970 to 1975, mainly in the '74-'75 time frame.

My dad and i have a 79' F-150 Ranger lariat, SB, 4x4, 351m. He said when he bought it new is was around $9500.00, i believe. I love this truck and we still have it in the garage and in pretty much mint condition. Wish i could find one brand new.

The only new truck I ever bought! A 74 F-100 (no such thing as an F-150 for that year I don't think.) Mine was bare bones - three options; a spare tire lock, an optional rear axle ratio,(3:50 - 1) and "ivy glow" paint

$2900.10 incl. tax & all.
