'99 4.0L SOHC Explorer Chipped??
Finally found a site that may be able to help!!! To start, I am looking to increase my towing performance (downgraded from a 7.3l powerstroke - yes, it hurts!!) Got a great deal on a used Explorer and just upgraded to a 2.5" exhaust. Planning on a Volant cold air intake all on my way to a chip. A few questions for you: Is it worth the extra $$ to upgrade to a mass air flow sensor with the Volant? If I do, will there be any additional programming required with the Diablo chip? 1 bank or 4 bank? Would prefer a single program as I always run high grade octane-any reason not too?
Your input is greatly appreciated!!

MAF's do help on the mid and top end when combined with an intake. As to whether its worth it, that's up to you. The power increase for the MAF tends to be about half of what a chip will give. A MAF/intake combination, with a chip programmed for it will do wonders for power. A custom tune is needed because without it the a/f ratio will tend to be lean with the MAF.
It would be a 4 bank chip. 4 bank doesn't mean 4 programs, it means the chip overrides all 4 tuning banks of the computer instead of just one. It's perferred to a 1 bank chip and we always burn a 4 bank program if a 4 bank read is available. A 4 bank program can be burned onto a 1 program chip or a switch chip.

Ken, as I am new to this site, do you represent Motorheaven or Diablo? I e-mailed them directly with the same question with no response to date. Just want to make sure I get what I want/need!!! What type of info would I need to provide for the programmers? I'm assuming, besides my vehicle codes, that makes and models of what I've installed??
