My New AIS Severe Duty

Just bought one about twenty minutes ago. I know alot are going with the Tymar and I wish I could but I want to keep the warranty going another 50k. Plus until 100k I am not doing a chip, have thought exhaust (warranty question). I paid 250 at dealer for the whole setup.

The pamplets didn't tell me any numbers on increased air flow, which I am curious about. What feedback do other owners have on this system, surely it's better than the stock, but how much?

Claims are 200 cfm. more flow over stock.
Overall about a 99.9% filtration efficiency.

Okay, installed last night, was fairly easy, took about 30 minutes. Took it out for a test, it seemed to have a little more takeoff. Noticed this morning that it does alot better beyond 2k rpm in speeding up. Sound isn't that great of a difference, perhaps a little more aggresive.

The rough part will be buying a replacement filter.

I went ahead and did the Zoodad using a Dremel and a 4" x 12" screened vent that I bought from Lowes. Trimmed the plastic, and the vent, screwed in the vent and painted.

Don't really notice a difference, but air is air. The engine bay get dustier and dirty quicker. I also made a cover out of flashing that covers the vent when it rains or in some wild case, I run into snow.

I bought some spare AIS filters from a guy on e-bay called "k-mansparts". I payed $60.00 for a new filter.
Typed in 'Powerstroke" and found him.

I have seen the replacements for 60 on the net, dealer said 90. Got a good price for the unit, saw it listed for 288 on the net. It is a small trunk in my opinion going to the grill. May do the zoodad eventually and run a second pipe out to the grill if I can find the room. I am still concerned about warranty issues. Would hate this thing to croak at 95k and not have a leg to stand on. But I do have the stock box put up in the garage.

I have an "02" as well with 35K on it. That is why I chose the AIS for now. I bought miine for $189.00 from the Ford Parts Network.

Filter should last about 8-15K miles depending on how dusty your environment is. I have 6K on mine and it "looks" good.

No need to keep your stock box as the AIS is an approved Motorcraft product and will not void warranty. I sold mine on E-Bay.

I stick to asphalt mainly, other than jobsites. So the filter should last awhile. Wouldn't the zoodad void warranty, that was why I wanted to keep stock box. Hoping Fram or Purolator starts making this filters eventually, would be alot cheaper.

Stroke, did you change your exhaust?

It may not void warranty however, Ford will not replace your air filter while under warranty unless it is a Ford part. Hence, probably a better idea to wait till warranty is gone unless you don't mind spending $$ on air filters when you go in for scheduled warranty service?

Zoodad may void warranty????????

The filters for the AIS are made specifically by Donaldson for Ford. They are a special design and material.

Don't look forward to any cheapo drop in replacements unless you want to revert back to less then optimum filtration.

I would avoid taking my PSD to Ford for any warranty work unless there is a major and real problem. It is my personal experience, and that of others that most Ford dealers have techs that don't have a clue what to do on PSD's.

Not planning on taking it in for service. They ticked me off with a 107 dollar fuel filter, I was happy first oil change was free, sucker only once. I can do routine maintenance and my dad is a top notch mechanic, been doing diesels for around 25-30 years.

When I first bought the truck I went back to the dealer wondering where the heater plug in was. Took four people then a young kid reached by the tow hook and pulled it out. Says something for their techs.

Silverdually,

You didn't say where you're from but in Denver Co. is where I got mine. You might try Mountain State Truck Center the phone # is (303) 391-9125. Mine was $180 for the kit with filter, they still had a couple left but when their stock is gone the prices will go up but I don't know by how much. Just tell them your interested in the AIS severe duty filter kit for the 7.3, they'll know what you want but the Ford part # is 2U2Z-9K635-AA. I hope this helps you. I didn't notice that HeatStroked had already gave the information, sorry.
