I did some quick searching for any other posts on this subject and didnt see any yet. I have a F350 (1999) with 46,000 miles. For the last 2 months I noticed a loud clanking noise coming from the rear of the truck. I thought I was just something I had in the bed making the noise until I did a real nice cleaning on the truck. I noticed I have 1 broken leaf spring and 1 missing leaf on the drivers side. I take it in tomorrow morning to have it looked at but was hoping to find info on that here first. I dont tow or haul anything with this truck whatsoever so for a leaf to be broken or missing seems pretty odd. Anyone have any similar problems?
UPDATE: Ford agreed that the broken and missing leaf spring was not something common however the service guy said "you know - they mass produce these things so fast..." as if this is something I should expect of my Ford truck. He more or less said in that statement to me - that my truck could potentialy be a problem because they mass produced over a million of them so far. I swear those guys will tell you anything off the top of thier head. I want to know why it broke not what the service guy thinks happened. I think its important to know because I dont haul any weight or tow anything with my 350.
The good news is, Ford will cover about $600 of the $700 bill and I pay $100 even though I am 10,000 miles beyond my 36,000 mile warranty.
It was $500 for parts and $200 for labor to replace (both) drivers side and passanger side leaf spring assembly. Parts will be in - in about 2 weeks.
