16x10 MT Classic 2 rims wont fit w/o lift w/305x70x16 tires

FYI, 305x70x16 Mickey Thompson tires on Mickey Thompson 16"x10" rims will NOT FIT w/o a lift, no way no how!!! I am bummin' BIG time. I didn't actually mount the tires on the rims yet so I can always return the rims & go down in size to the 8" wide rim but I love the look of the 10" rim on these trucks & would like to get it to work. It will interfere w/ the front bumper by about 1.5" at full lock & then at full lock the other way it would interfere w/ the plastic inner fender well by about 1.5". I measured the radii of where the tire would be if mounted. The 10" rim makes the outside edge of the tire stick out 2.5" wider than stock, thus the problem. It's like turning the wheel at full lock & trying to pull off the tire, it'll hit either the bumper or the inner wheel well before you can get it off. I checked the archives & people did use a leveling kit w/ this size tire but I don't know what backspacing of their wheels. Summit Racing sell's a 2.5" leveling kit for $229 w/ a $40 give card. Think it'll work? It uses 4 "U" bolts, 2 springs which look 6 spring thick stacked/staggered & a track bar re-locating brkt whatever that means & can use stock shocks for now until I save for good ones.
Thanks
Jim

Are you sure you have the proper offset on the wheels? I ran a set of 16x10 AR rims with Baja Claw 305/70 tires with no problems. Pretty much the same setup as what you have.

Doh!! It would have helped if I had read your sig. Difference between our rigs is the reason for your problems.

Do a search on leveling kits and/or lifts and you will get a ton of info on your options. I don't recall seeing anyone on here that has used the Summit kit, but someone will chime in. Good luck to you!!

Stock ones will be 2.5 inches too short, they will limit out with any pothole (tire drop).

I have the Fabtech leveling kit (spring relocation brackets) and love it, it lifts the truck but retains the stock ride. Much better ride than my brothers 4-inch spring lift kit.

Turbotom, I am considering that kit for myself and was just curious as to easy of install (should be straight forward) and if your truck sits exactly level front to rear now.

I'm not sure that the shocks would be 2.5" too short. The spring packs are placed below the stock springs so you gain a good amount of the lift via stacked height which doesn't effect shock length.

Regarding the kit itself, many people are happy with it while others have experiences some problems (like breaking of the springs or trac bar setup that is used).

That makes sense I was thinking of my leveling kit that moves axle and springs down by moving the spring mounting points.

Yes it was easy, me and a couple friends did it one night after work. It sets level, I added a picture of it to my gallery. The picture is on a sand dune so the ground is not level.

Instead of buying a leveling kit, did you ever look into installing X code springs? My truck has them and it sits level. I also just bought 305 70 r 16's on 16X10 rims, but i didn't put them on yet.

Thanks Tom and the truck looks great by the way. When you tow your trailer with all your gear, does your truck remain level? I am assuming you are running the stock rear suspension.

Sorry Jim for hijacking your thread, but Tom has done exactly what I am considering doing to my truck. You should look into the x springs like what 92f150I6 mentioned. That is why I have the clearance to run the 305's on 10-inch rims as those springs are part of the plow package that came on mine.

I have the 2.5 tuff-country leveling kit and it does stiffin up your ride.I still am using the stock shocks and they work fine so far its been a year since I put the kit on.I put an add a leaf in the rear to try and keep a raked look but it was not enough for me I plan to put another spring in or remove the factory 4" block and replace it with a 5.5" one from Jack-It.I carry about 1000-1250lbs in the back daily plus I tow a loaded trailer daily 5-12000gtw.If you don't carry much weight just the leveling kit should cure all your problems.I currently run 35's on 16.5x9.75 classic II's and have plenty of room.I do not know what my backspacing is though.I ordered them from Summit and they fit right on.It must depend on truck suspension packages as to what tire will fit because I have buddies running 35's on stock suspened F250's with no problem.I do know that they are running 8" wide wheels though.

92F150I6, I was curious how much does this X spring raise the front of the truck? More than the 2.5" leveling kit would raise it?My truck came already w/ a camper towing package so can carry a lot more weight & it seems like it sit's higher than other 4x4 F250's I see, plus it rides pretty stiff. The camper option code is 532 w/ heavy duty front spring 200LBS upgrade w/ rear stabilizer bar & auxiliary rear springs. Do you think I already have the X spring your speaking of? Would the leveling kit like Summit's kit goe on under the existing spring pack or does it replace it? My point is if it replace it, it may not give me an additional 2.5" if my ride height is say 1.5" higher than normal. When do you plan on putting on the 305 tires w/ 16x10 rims? Please let know if they fit.
Thanks

I just sold a 2000 F250 LB SC 4x4,, No Lift no X springs and 305 Pro comps and 16x10 AR Wheels and never rubbed a tire, even during some serious off roading,, Recheck your measurements. I have the same wheels and tires on my new to me F350, and they too never rub anywhere..

Yes stock 350 rear suspension, but have added air bags to keep the truck level when I hook the gooseneck trailer on. Because of the way trailer was built, only tandem axle, I have 2500 pounds on the truck.

MRBASS, would you happened to know which American Racing wheel you used? I just checked their site & the only 8x170mm wheel seemed to be only in the 16.5 x 9.75 size but they seem to have close to the same backspace as mine, 4.5".
Thanks

scram98400jm: You can see which fron springs your truck has by looking at the code listed on the sticker located on the driverside doo jamb. The X code springs would have an X listed in that place. The X springs are the ones which make for a higher truck stock. My truck sits noticably higher than a non X equipped f350 that I sometimes park next to. There is a sticky post at the top of this forum which may heklp you out by deciphering you r trucks's codes.
