Hey Spelly,
No need to shout (ALL CAPS ).
I have a MAC intake on my truck so I have the oiled cotton air filter. I ALWAYS use Motorcraft filters on my truck.
Prior to the MAC, I used Fram paper element air filters. Several UOA showed they were doing a fine job.

The absolute best oil you could put in your 4.2 is 10W30 Royal Purple with a Motorcraft filter. PERIOD.

My truck likes Havoline. The ford filter is definately the way to go. The 10w30 or 5w30 work fine, but I've been feeding it 5w20. Ford says its fine to use all the way back to 97 engines. I was a little leary at first, but you can really feel the difference in throttle response. And the extra mpg I picked up doesn't hurt either. HOWEVER, if you do a lot of towing I'd probably agree with the 10w30 or straight 30 theory.(just to be on the safe side )

10w30 is cheaper otherwise there is no reason. 5w30 is better oil
(please someone refute me )

5w not necessarily better than 10w depends on oil and use. In cold weather I'd agree since it flows faster. In towing a load I would probably go for the "stiffer" 10w. Since there is less of a span between 10 and 30 than 5 and 30 it requires less vi improvers which , all things being equal should make it more shear stable. Thus a better choice for abuse. My .02 worth

I used Mobil 1 and a Purolator Pure One on my 97 up until I traded it in on my 03.The 03 calls for 5w-20 so I don't know what i'm going to use in it yet. Might switch it to Mobil 1 5w-30 unless there are going to be warranty concerns.

If you are partial to mobil 1 their 0w20 will satisfy your warranty. The motorcraft 5w20 works well also and a lot cheaper. I run it in my wifes 98 expedition and it loves it. I have seen a lot of good Used oil analysis results with this oil at BITOG Website. IMO. Stick with the 5w20, if that is what ford reccomends, nothing wrong with that oil. Especially if warranty is an issue.
