pre-purchase questions
I am in the process of looking for and purchasing a 2004 F250 XLT powerstroke crewcab 4x4. I qualify for the X plan. I was quoted $36,500 for a $44,000 truck after discounts and rebates. This price is off of list. Is this a good deal or does the dealer have more "room" to deal. I live in Albuquerque, NM. Should I go to a bigger market, such as Denver or Phoenix, to get a better deal?
Also, I was told by a non-Ford owner that the 6.0 engines and trannys have problems. Do they? I drive approx. 40,000 miles a year and need a truck that is reliable.
Thanks in advance for your input.

As for the 6.0, check out the diesel forums here at FTE. The early ones did have problems, but they appear to be fixed. But the diesel forums are your best source of info for that.
The truck I want is $43,020.00. With the X plan discount and $2000 rebate the selling price is $35,850.85. I was told that "this is the price". No dealing.
What do you think?

). If the most important thing to you is that bottom line, then keep shopping. On the other hand, if you like the dealer you're working with (they seem to be treating you fairly, they know what they're talking about, will be convenient for service, etc...) , and your time is worth more than a couple hundred dollars, then you may as well order the vehicle. My point is: you're not going to save THOUSANDS by shopping further- the money just isn't there.
