The only reservation I had about purchasing my new truck was some reviews claiming 5.4 felt "sluggish". Well for the 1st 1000 miles I broke her in the same way I have every vehicle - Varying my speeds, light acceleration, heavy acceleration - just not pinning it and taking it to the rev limit.
I still bought the truck in spite of the "sluggish" reference to the 5.4 because I have had fast vehicles and that was not a number one priority with me on this purchase.
Well tonight I hit 1000 miles... and pegged it. WOT baby. I must say I was impressed. Not an S4 or M3 - different worlds - but it sure was fun to find out what had been laying in wait under the hood.
I'm only at 600 miles, so I'm still taking it easy.
I think the best thing I can say about this truck so far is I'm stunned by how quiet it is. I needed a truck for its versatility, but I didn't need to be reminded every time I drove it by feeling like I'm riding on a washboard. This truck has a silky smooth ride and is quieter than any vehicle, truck or car, I've owned.
0-20mph - Excellent
25-40 - Somewhat doggish!
40+ - Absolute Rocket!!
Watch those speedos; you will look once at 60mph then your second glance will be 100mph!
OH! Did I mention how solid 100mph is? I still cannot get over how solid of a ride 80-90-100mph is!
Running about 65 today I made a quick pass, looked down and was doing 95. The Lariat "felt" like I was running about 65-70. Way too quiet and way too smooth to be doing 95.
ps - That's partly why I did the speedometer test later in the day (posted in another thread tonight) when I had a clear open interstate. The guage was right on though. The truck just runs that smooth and quiet!!!!
All I can say is that I want to drive this thing all the time. The only hesitation I am having right now is the price of petrol - lol. I have had this thing for about 3 weeks now and I have spent about 120 bones in fuel.
I am holding onto my pants waiting to see what summer gas prices are going to bring. Either way, I am really enjoying this truck. I have had several compliments on it, and I always turn around and give it a glance after I have walked away from parking it
