Clashing, Grinding gears when engaging 4X4
Hey all,
Just bought a 2001 F-250 SD and after putting only 300 miles I can say its a great ride! When I "lock" my hubs and put the automatic trans into N, step on the brake and then try to engage 4X4 Hi or Lo the transfer case makes noises that scares hell out of me. Sounds as if the gears are grinding with such force that Im waiting to see gear teeth flying out from under the truck. It only does this for a brief time, only at the point of engagement. Is this normal?
Also, does anyone know of a way to override the daytime running lights? My girlfriend has a Chevy Blazer and it has a feature where you can press the dimmer swith 4 times in a row and it will shut the DRLs. Anything like this on the F250?
Thanx much all.

Grinding in the T-case is not normal. When you put it in neutral, wait a minute before trying to engage it. Maybe things are still spinning immediately after going out of gear to neutral. You may trying engaging it in park and see what happens. But the grinding is not normal. I have the manual T-case and have no grinding. I have the 6 spd and not the auto. Maybe someone with an auto will happen by and give thier opinion.

LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-01 AT 04:37 AM (EST)[p]Put the truck in 4 hi while in gear or moving. Once the 4wd engages then stop, neutral, switch to 4 lo, then back into gear and you should be set. To much in the trans/transfer case is still spinning in neutral. That should help your problem.
