I just called the Ford dealer - Coil Pack $107.33. Autozone - Coil Pack $41.99.

The dealer ship is selling the Motorcraft plugs for $5.62 each. Did I read somewhere that the Autolite Double Platinum plugs are the same plug? If they are the same, they are $3.97 at Advance Auto.

for sure do the plugs first i had same problem with my 2000 f150 4.2 i to thought coil pack but after doin ohm test it was fine and i had just put plugs in it about 3 months before all this happened so i ruled that out. got the codes pulled no engine light on but still code in the memory for # 3 cyl miss fire pulled the plug and sure enough it was burnt on the end put new plugs in runs great think i got jus a bad plug it was a bosh. oh the ohm test is a simple test with a dvom meter just disconect eletrical connecter from coil and measure ohms across the positive and negative it should be 0.3 to 1.0 ohms and to to the secondary side which is were your plug wires go in you check between the paired cyls check 7/4 8/2 1/6 and 3/5 these should be6.5 to11.5 k-ohms any more or less replace the coil

Well, I bought the $42.00 coil pack from AutoZone vice the $107 Motorcraft. So, I get the #7 coil pack off w/o too much difficulty, then the sparkplug. I get the new plug in and then I try to put the connection onto the new coil pack and it doesn't fit. The stick'n $42 coil pack doesn't fit w/the connector. So, since it's too late to get to anywhere that has a different coil pack, I put the old Motorcraft coil pack back on. Start up the truck, no problems. Run the truck for a few and I don't feel any misfires. I then hooked my Superchips Micro-tuner up and no mis-fire code. Hurray, it was just a plug. Now I can take back the $42 coil pack back to AutoZone.

Danquin, if you get a "Check Engine" light in your dash cluster then a code is being 'thrown' to the vehicle computer.

There is a data port above the gas pedal. You can plug a code reader into that plug and download the "Code". The codes explain where the vehicle failure is occurring.

I had the EXACT same symptoms as Mr Logic on my 95 Ranger 4.0L. It took me forever to figure it out. It happened after I changed the plugs one time. I thought I may have damaged a plug wire in the process so I replaced the wire set, no change, slight hesitation when "lugging" the engine and at low rpm's. I lived with it for a long time till I happened across this site and everyone talking about "double platinum plugs". So I changed the plugs out again and used autolite double platnum. Problem solved!! Those double platinum's are great!!
