To be an NYPD Officer or not?

i want an honest opinion from all law enforcement officers, wether or not i should drop out of school and go into the NYPD academy this July, or continue with my education, get my bacholers and then decide if i want the job or not? i am also on several other PD list but none are ready to hire as of now. need some good advice.

i agree. get your degree, then if you choose to join the nypd, go for it. being a law enforcement officer is an honorable profession, but education is also important.

i am doing the same thing, i was going to try and get on Des Moines PD and not go to school anymore, but desided to finish my 4 year and then go try it. that way if i don't like it i have something to fall back on. as much as i hate school right now, i have to say it's probably a better disission.

....Im surprised that they'll take you with out a diploma....Most require some sort of criminal justice degree and/or equilvalent military experience....
Stay the course....get your degree.

most places acually don't care what your degree is in. they just would like you to have one, but still take guys without one.

thanks for you opinions, its tough making decisoins that are gonna affect you for the rest of your life. i keep thinking pension and 20 year retirement, but then i think education, promotion or even following what my degree is in. my biggest concern is paying health insurance if my job after school doesnt have one. being a cop seems so secure ya know.

Stay in school not matter what, even if you must stand on your head in the corner and stack greasy BB's

Then…… go do life

Traditionally that meant a law degree or a degree in accounting. Or, an alternative to that was a degree in anohter field, but with several years in law enforcement, including a minimum number in a supervisory position. However, now with the emphasis on terrorism maybe that's changed.

At least have your Associates in Criminal Justice. Your Bachlors would be better. Stay in school. If you dont, you'll just have to go back, unless you want to direct traffic for 20 years.
