Carbon fiber FX4 accents for Lariat

I just called the Ford dealer to order the FX4 carbon fiber interior pieces for my Lariat, that (cough) wood trim has to go before I throw up.

Radio panel $43
Cup holder face $23
Lower door trim panel $11 each
Upper door trim panel around chrome door handle - the parts guy could not find this one in the book.

Looks like I can replace all the wood trim with factory carbon fiber-ish trim for about $100. I have to go in and talk to the parts guy on the last peice.

Is the radio panel on the FX4 the same? I thought the Lariat was different, so it couldn't be swapped with the FX4. I really like that carbon fiber look too. Real sporty.

Paint remover takes off all of the wood accents. Be sure to get some 40 grit sand paper, some krylon and some naval jelly. I found that a 9" die grinder with an abrasive blade will sand it to a shine.

Good luck!

2004supacrewlariat,

I didn't see the sanded radio panel in your gallery. Do you have a picture of the finished product?

LOL that was a good one!

On the other question I'll have to call the dealer again tomorrow and see if the trim is the same for both the FX4 and Lariat, I hope so. The parts guy seemed to suggest they were, only the color was different. I would think if you could order the FX4 with the same dash features down the center as the Lariat the trim would be the same.

I thought the problem was with the Audiophile radio. The FX4 uses a different style radio, I think. I may be wrong--won't be the last time!

I could be wrong, but if my memory serves me correct, the Lariat comes standard with the automatic climate control. This is not an option on the FX4, therefore the center area (radio-climate control) are different. For this reason I don't believe that the carbon fiber kit will fit the Lariat.

My neighbor bought the 04 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4. It had some options that I really liked, including the automatic climate control, memory heated seats, but I bought the 04 FX4 SuperCrew because of that "CHEEEESY CHEEEP" looking wood trim.

Personal opinion only......Good luck I'll check back to see if they are compatible.

Confirmed, I just checked some photos on Ford's web site and the climate control area is unique on the Lariat. This is most annoying.

Plan B - Fire up my brothers CNC machine and mill one? Billet accents...hmmm

Plan C - Apply a single layer of carbon fiber over the existing peices.

Plan K - Krylon rattle can

Now what about the beige IP? The FX4 IP works much better with the carbon fiber don't it? Had the same thoughts myself since only the Lariat will give you the black leather bench up front.

Unhappy I have an XLT non Lariat....

I haven't looked at the dash config but would like to swap out my plain jane grey dash trim for some of the carbon fiber stuff I saw in other trucks... I guess I am out of luck....
