We have an 89 Aerostar. It won't start, it turns over real nice, has spark and is getting fuel. We hear the fuel pump kicking on. The starter went out with us working on it, so we just replaced that and we also replaced the spark plugs. Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this.
We did a test on it, but not real sure how to read the codes. Would the codes be 2, or 3 digits? How are they put out?
Any advice, or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the website of codes, I found them. I'm not sure if the codes from our 89 are 2, or 3 digits. Do you know if our van would be 2, or 3 digit codes?
I'm really fed up with this van, we've tried just about everything. Do you have any suggestions? It's really sad to see a good looking van sitting out there just rusting. We've got an older Dodge van that runs pretty good, but doesn't look as good. I was really hoping to get this van running good.
this was kinda said in the same way in another thread, it may be your ignition module, its acccesable through tthe doghouse inside the van, but its very difficult to get out with the right size socket, a friend of mine grinded the sides of his socket to enable it to fit the screws which are recessed in the module.

We sprayed some starting fluid in the air intake and that doesn't help. We have spark and good compression. It turns over real nice and acts like it wants to start so bad, but something just isn't right and won't let it start. How do I check to see if it has jumped the timing chain?
Thanks for your reply to my post about codes. I'm not real sure how to read Ford codes. We get flash*flash*flash*flash, with * meaning a short pause in between. Then after a longer pause we get flash*flash*flash*flash*flash*flash and so on with alot of different numbers. Could that be a 46?

I think the first 3 are saying it is a v-6, should .Then you should get 1 flash, then I think codes should start. Key on engine off is read the same as key on engine running, but you will get different codes from one way to the other.Mine is a 93 and it will throw me codes sometimes that dont exist unless I am counting wrong also.
it sound like you chain has jumped from what you said when it almost starts. to see if it has jumped you need to have distributor on mumber one cylnder, engine timing mark at top dead center. if distributor is not at number one when timing mark is it is either out of time which you could try moving distributor. if you can not move it far enough to get it in time the chain has jumped.
you could try moving distributor to compinsate.
Where are you located? If you are somewhere around the SW Washington/Portland area, I have a hand held AutoXray that we could hook up to actually verify your code.
