Talking An Aussie building a 14 sec 1/4mile F250

G'day I'm new to the F series vehicle, just sold my gen3 ute so now i want power again.
I plan to stay with the 5.0L (1988 F250) engine but all new components such as, Standard crank and con rods but shot peened, forged pistons, moly rings, standard cam, 550cc injectors, mild port & polish and fully balanced.
I want to super charge was thinking sprintex or somthing similar running at 9 - 10lbs with 9:1 comp.

am I dreaming??

9-10lbs is doable with a 9:1 c/r, assuming you are using 93 or 94 octane gasoline. Not sure what kind of grades you have "down under" but you'll need good gas to make this work, unless you lower the compression ratio to 8.5:1 which is probably more work than its worth.

Before you run the truck hard, take it easy for a while to make sure you're not getting detonation. You're going to need a strong ignition system (high energy spark) as well as top quality plugs.

8.5 is probably better unless this is to be a race only vehicle. everything else sounds good except you'll want a new cam with better profiles for supercharging. Also you may consider a roller cam for some extra power.

I agree with frederic about the strong ignition. An ignition system that has a "boost retard" will help prevent detonation. Also, you should get a new set of spark plugs that are at least one heat range colder than stock.

i like the lbs. things dont you do klioles/ or somethings down under, your already doing cc,s what is cc,s to americans standards?

I agree that you would need to run petrol with high octane (Shell Optimax etc.) You should be able to install the supercharger with the 9:1 comp. But I think you should also install a knock sensor to prevent pre detonation (and tears...).
BTW botz244, yeah we use kilo's for measuring weight, it is not yet used in the turbocharging/supercharging context, although we are starting to use BAR's (approx. one atmosphere, and about 15psi).
cc means Cubic Centermetre. This is used usually to determine an engines capacity (mainly in motorcycling circles where engine capacity can be often below 1 litre), it is similar to cubic inch. There are approx 16 cc's in a cubic inch, and 1000 cc's in a litre, ie. this F250 we are talking about has a 5000cc motor.

I'm supercharging my 84 bronco on straight LPG, and to get the compression down just a little bit, I'm using slightly thicker (and stronger) head gaskets. so going down a little in compression is easy (and cheap) via that method.
believe it or not, its not too hard to do your own head gaskets. just grab a torque wrench from supercheap auto, and grab the head bolts loosening/tightening sequence for your specific engine from somewhere on the net (or buy a gregories manual for your truck)

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but if i were id look into a 5.0 HO out of a mustang, they came with forged pistons from the factory, might save ya some money. Supercharged 5.0s are abundant round here and alot of the guys know their stuff. You might wanna hit up a forum such as stangnet.com im sure they could answer alot of your questions

Doesn't using a thicker head gasket on the same setup alter the quench making it more prone to detonation?

If you're getting new pistons anyway, get low comp ones around the 8-1 mark.
You'll get a lot more benefit out of being able to dial in some timing than you will from having the hi comp.

Use a positive displacement blower like an Eaton and you'll get full boost straight off, that way you don't really need a whole lot of peak boost.
I saw an M90 in the Brissie Trading Post for $600.
Where are you at?
