i bought a bassani catback exhaust it is 3" i dont have the money to buy the ypipe i want to put on a cherry bomb glass pack muffler behind the cat converters and hook up the cherry bomb to the bassani catback my question is how can i make a 2 1/4" exhaust connect to a 3" any and all advice will do.... thanks for your time
buy a reducer at the parts store, you may have to get 2 and put them together. i dont know if there is one that goes from 2-1/4 to 3" so you may need 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 than another thats 2-1/2 to 3
i was thinking of that but then i remembered if i do that it will add about 12" or so extra tubing and then my exhaust hangers wont line up if they would just make a reducer for 3" to 2 1/4"
Any gas station or exhaust shop should be able to make you any size adapter you need. I had the local Sunoco station make me an adapter and it cost me like ten dollars! Also, they should be able to figure out how long it can be to still have the whole system line up.
It only took the guy like ten minutes to do it (he overflared the first one, so I wasnt charged). I dont remember the measurements offhand. What does youre stock Y pipe look like? Is the cat right at the end of the Y pipe? Is it a slip fit pipe or a flange style? If its a flange, the shop can probably cut a few inches off of that to fit the adapter (so it doesnt throw the rest of the measurements off behind it).
You might want to call Bassani and see what they say. I believe their catback is listed as being able to bolt to the existing Y pipe, so either they offer the adapter, or can tell you what the size is. I believe you can get adapters as small as 2" in length (just enough for the flaring teeth to get in either end), but I cant say for certain.
today i called midas and they said they will make me a reducer so i brought them the muffler and catback they took the parts to the shop and not even five minutes later they brough it out and it looked very good they only charged me $3 for it to now i need high flow cat converters any ideas on what would be good
I believe Catco and Magnaflow produce the most popular high flow cats. You should do a search in this forum for that topic. I know its been discusses many times.
How many units are on youre stock Y pipe? My 96 had two (but was actually 1..precat and cat). You should be fine with one high flow. That is what Bassani uses in their high flow Y's, and I passed the MA sniffer two months ago with no problems whatsoever. Just remember to have it installed exactly where the stock one was (might seem silly, but some people dont...).
Oh, and yes it can increase the sound. The cat basically acts like a muffler, so any cfm improvement normally results in more sound making it to youre tailpipe.
