New Guy here reading threads from the dead. I own A Ram and a Bronco with the 300 I6. Love'em Both. Of course my Ram doesn't have the 360, mine's a 350(Hemi) also known as the 5.7L

When people try to get me into the Ford/Chevy/Dodge/(Toyota) argument, I just walk away.

Welcome to the forum ! That's a very nice straight Bronco, I guess where you live (FL ?) is pretty kind on cars/ trucks for rust. Round here it would have holes in it

well i know it is old but yeah my friend s give me a lot of crap for my i6. i beat the hell out of it, go over 4k rpm, since i owned it in June of 08' all i have done mechanically is, new TB gasket, injectors, and that is pretty much it for engine wise, i have has power steering leaks but that is common cause it wont last longer than the engine. my friend has a 02 7.3l f250 and he beat the **** out of that and his rear end, and trans mission were going and he didnt even have the truck for 1 year so he traded it in for a 05 f250 with the 6.0l and within a year he went through a transmission and he keeps telling me to get a real truck but i tell him i have a real truck. i don't need to pay no 3$ per gallon of diesel which i don't even need. he is already looking for a new truck. all my other friends say i beat the hell out of my truck more than i did my 91 Pontiac Sunbird 2.0l but man did that take a beating. but i keep telling my friends i haven't replaced anything major on the truck yet either. i have a 5.8l rebuilt by factory in 98 with only 20k on it, which i would like to drop in my truck but i like my 4.9l i don't know if i want to put that engine in or get a new truck unless they make a new 4.9l.

Didnt read all post but, both engines rock IMO.. got a 300 in my '86 f250 4x4 and the 360 mag in my durango for my setup in rigs the 360 gets 16 on the highway and the ford gets 12

BTW the dodge is my first and just got 2 months ago(a 2000).... just tows weight faster is all I have noticed

the ford is a inline six longer stroke and better bottom end power and tourqe. just like a semi motor they are inline sixes.
the dodge is a high reving motor great for accelleration.
but they suck for bottom end .
the 300 was built for a work truck. it may not be as quik as the dodge but it will pull more of a load.
my 79 f 250 has pulled an amazing amount of loads slowly but surely.
and it is easy to work on when it needs it it is a rare occasion

The 360 would destroy the 300 in towing and speed, fox.

The 300 is still just a six.

dont be so quick to put down the 300, or put the 360/350, well any v8. The driver is as important as the engine. Hell i out ran a 82 dodge truck (360, 4 speed) with my F150 (1981, 300, c6). Turns out that the idiot not only couldnt keep his mouth shut, but couldnt drive a stick either.

Also, that 300 has some pep. I dont know if its the c6 or how the truck is built. 0-60 is as good as my 89 K1500 chevy which has a 350.

I'm not putting the 300 down. I'm just being realistic.

I've read alot of threads here and other forums that tout the praises of the 300. I here some saying they had them in their 250 and even a few in their 350 pickups. I'm new to the 300 Crowd but I'm wondering if Ford put these in as factory options back in the day or if these were just engine swaps done aftermarket?

A 250/350 300 option, if it was factory, I think says alot for our little torque monsters. Yes, some V8's make more but they don't use it as well as our Straight 6 does.

The 300 was factory available in the F100-F350, as well as the F600 and larger trucks.
Many older school buses had the big six under the hood.

I ordered my '86 F-250 4x4 with the 300, I'm peep'n it up some right now, not that I wasn't happy with stock trust me, more like a mid life crises and the need for speed lol or at least to make the 300 breath proper

I don't think the 300 would notice the load as much as the 360 would. The 360 might tow faster, but it's going to be running higher RPMs than it normally would. The big six will plug along below 2000 and do the work without breaking a sweat.

I can't argue with that. It's not always so much about sheer power, but how it uses it.
