360/390 fly wheels fit early 460/429(internal balance) I did it with no problems but unfortunately I don't recall what I used for a starter, 460 I think?

The 460 is out of a 71 lincoln so it is internally balanced...the 360 flywheel is internally balanced...so there is no need to "watch my bearings" the bellhousing is from a 79 400. And yes everything fits together because i just got it dropped in...

Yes they are both internally balanced, But, they are balanced with their flywheel........so if you put a 360 flywheel on a 460 it will not be balanced..........AND, by bye bearings..........if your lucky

Don't take my word for it, call ANY reputable engine builder in the book.........

Ford didn't balance every engine to ONE specific flywheel like you do when you have a motor balanced. If they did any time you replaced a flexplate or flywheel you would have to tear your motor down and have it balanced. His motor will be just fine. I changed flywheels on my pulling truck last season and called the guy that balanced it to see if anything needed checked. He told me that it would be OK, and it ran all season turning around 7,000 and the bearings still looked new when I took it apart last fall.

Oh yea, either a 400 or 460 starter will work. The 460 starter with the soliniod on it will be stonger.

i have talked to reputable engine builders along with many experienced people on this forum like greenhighboy who have done this before along with people around here that have done this same thing and have seen it myself...the 360 flywheel will work just fine with the internally balanced 460...the externally balanced 460 is a different story.

Yea, believe it or not this is SOP when bolting up an np-435 or t-18 to a 460, no big deal. I have never gotten satisfactory info on how the make the starter work well consistantly. Typically, guys use the starter for the 460, or 400 but some guys report they were able to just bolt it right up, others say they had to shim them. I know thats not much help, but search for the thread on the np-435 swap in the 73-79 forum, this was covered recently.
