I was thinking of mounting an external system, sort of what they use on NASCAR racers. It involves an oil line that runs from the engine filter mount, and a filter/ cooler mounted somewhere in the engine bay, (like on the inner fender) and a recovery oil tank that has a reserve oil supply...any thoughts?
For my 400, 302, everything ford FL-1A motorcraft, both of them are either getting a dual filter or a filter with oil cooler keep that oil cooler, watching my 302 cold turns 55psi warm 180F drops to 40 with 10w-30. What about donaldson haven't seen anyone menchin that one.
Any one know who makes the Walmart Super Tech filters? That is what I usually use. Don't use Motorcraft because my dad used to have a 73 F 100 with a 360 that the pressure relief used to stick in the pump or something and blow the Motorcraft filters off the truck. The other filters he used seemed to hold up to the pressure spikes. Not sure which other filters he used though.
I've been running the Wix filters recently... I buy them in bulk from Fleet Filter, a sponsor of FTE. They fit everything from my 68 F100 to my '02 Jeep, so it works out best for me.
On my '97 Expedition, I've used these oil filters:
Motorcraft
Valvoline Maxlife
Havoline
Fram (only once)
The first three were top notch, & are all made by Purolator. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them again. As far as the Fram is concerned, well, let's just say....................
