I have been just noticing a slow wobble when I apply the breaks. This is on a 250 PSD 4x4, auto trans. I was talking to a friend who owns a similar PSD and he says warped rotors are very common on these rigs. &*(%&*^*&. Has anyone seen a thread out there regarding this issue? What other damamge can it cause if I ride a few months before it can be corrected. Gotta save up the $$$$.
I COPIED & PASTED THIS FROM OTHER POSTS IN THE PAST.
HOPE THIS HELPS.I had the same problem on my 2001 F350 with 90,000 miles. Here is what I opted to do about it.
HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE ART ROTORS. http://www.appliedrotortechnology.com/.
I PUT ART ROTORS & PERFORMANCE PADS ON THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK,MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE.
THEY ARE SMOOTH,QUIET & NO MORE BRAKE DUST USING THEIR PADS.
IF YOU PAY $ 300.00 FOR NEW ROTORS & PADS AT THE LOCAL PARTS HOUSE,& THEY STILL ARE JUNK.
YOU MIGHT AS WELL SPRING FOR $ 50.00 MORE & CALL DEAN @ ART & GET THE ART ROTORS.
FRONT ROTORS & PAD KIT IS $ 300.00.
REAR ROTORS & PAD KIT IS $ 300.00.
BUY BOTH KITS TOGETHER & THEY ARE $ 500.00.
LEADTIME IS 5 WEEKS ON THESE ROTORS,
THE REASON,HE IS BACKED LOGGED WITH ALL OF THE SUPER DUTY OWNERS BUYING THESE KITS SO THAT THEY CAN SLEEP @ NIGHT.
Yea definitely go for something aftermarket 'cause the stockers will just warp again if you did it the first time. ARTs seem to be the choice brake and rotors place.
mine just warped too. I have 44,000 on my truck. I'm gonna ride mine until they are crap then get the ART setup maybe. They have Brembo front rotors at the tirerack for $79. I might give those a shot. Anybody tried the brembos?
My 02 w/ 32k is starting to shake too. Would these still be covered under 3yr/36k mile warranty? or is it considered normal wear no-warranty item? If not I may invest in the ART. Towing is probably not helpping me either......
Mine has been doing this for about a month.. and I jsut ordered some new ones from ART. they have a sale going on right now for all 4 corners + pads. but remember.. they don't have a pile of them ready to go. When you order them they have to cut and treat them before they ship. The guy I spoke with there is Dean. Seems to be a pretty nice guy. shipping is about $40 and they will take about 3 weeks before they get to my door. I haven't heard anything bad about their product. so I'm hoping for the best. I don't think I will be dissappointed.
many times it is not the rotors causing the problems but the pads. cheaper pads heat up faster and do not disapate the heat as well causing the rotor to warp. it would be best to upgrade the rotor and pads. if you do not want to do all that now i can reccomend performance friction "carbon matalic"pads they are $50-$60 per pair. i have used these pads and had the stock rotors turned on all my vehicles for the past 10 years or so, and i think they work very well. you can get them at www.nationalfleetparts.com
Great information, I have already visited the ARTS website. Good stuff. This summer, I will be towning a bigger trailer, I will need the extra stopping power. Now, I'm thinking about some guages but I'd like to do the install. Do I need anything special for the trany temp guage?
Mr Clutch, are they better than the much raved about ART's?
I have yet to go the after market route, dealer is still putting free ones on, but as all good things that will come to an end, and I want to be prepared for the ones I have to by.....
The pfc rotrs are a much better quality material than the others. Keep in mind the pfc rotors are the same material being used in most racing circuits such as nascar and indy. If you use a good quality material there is no need to slot or cross drill the rotor. Ask any nascar team if they are using slotted, cross drilled or frozen rotors. The answer is no. The pads I put with the rotors are another significant step up from stock or even the ceramic pads members on this site have spoke about. The z-rated pads are speciffically for HD use. The hotter they get the better they perform. The combination of the 2 dramatically increase the braking performance of our trucks and the durability of our brakes.
Bygolly, some of the rotors that were shown on last weeks Nascar race @ Rockingham were cross drilled.
I have a 2001 F350 7.3L 4x4 crew cab short bed.
How much for the PFC front rotors & pads?
How much for the rear rotors & pads?
What if you buy both sets? How much then?
What is the leadtime on getting these?
