Hey guys, Can anyone tell me where I can find what the stopping distance is for a 74 F100 from 40mph to 0? A couple of ricers where acting like complete idiots and I got swept up in it. This info would definetly help me out.
Only thing I could suggest is go somewhere and try it......those statistics werent as big of a deal in the 1970's, and if your thinking what I think you are, their cars probably stop much quicker
icicle509, Exactly, they were messing around and one of them pulled in front off the other, who was about 3 car lengths in front of me. The first kid locked 'em up, the second kid did likewise, but I couldn't get stopped. Tore up his car pretty bad, had to be towed. I got a long bar from the wrecker when he came, pulled the fender off of the L/F tire and drove my truck home. Love that old Detroit iron!!! I was going about 40. I have two witnesses. My insurance is denying they claim, thanks to the witnesses. I'll keep ya posted.
Man you are lucky that those winesses are helping. My sister had something like that happen to her and one of the guys in the cars that did it jumped out and told the police he was walking along and "witnessed" the whole thing. They nailed my sister for the accident and she could not prove otherwise. All of the other witnesses just drove off.
Torque1st, Yea I'm REAL lucky. If I get a chance I will defitnetly thank them. Maybe they stepped forward, because these kids were really idiots, putting alot of other drivers at risk. I'd go into detail but it would take to long.
Well went to traffic court on Monday. The boy that caused the wreck, got off. The cop blew it. He wrote him up for failure to signal when coming to a quick stop or something like that. It was such a stupid law the magistrate couldn't understand it. He tried to get this kid but according to the law he did nothing wrong. He figured that the proper signal would be brake lights. The magistrate new he was lying, one of the wittnesses showed. My story and hers were the same, but this kid's was completely different. Anyhow he wasn't written up for anything else. My ticket was also dropped. My insurance has refused the claim. I talked to them the other day, and they haven't heard a thing. The guy that filed the claim, told my agent that he talked to a lawyer. He was told that he didn't have much of a case, but he still filed the claim. So it looks like I got off also, except for some bent sheet metal. Bottom line, what do you think this young kid learned from all of this? Nothing, he got off scott free, this boy is gonna hurt someone or worse. Thanks for letting me blow off steam.
that stinks.....i just moved to southern cali, and hopefully something like that never happens to me, but if it does, at least i know my truck will come out of it better than his car. i can fix mine for a few hundred dollars and a few hours of time, but how much do you think he would put into it to fix his. anyway, sorry that he didnt get what he deserved.
Stopping distance? whats that? My 74 effie100 with drums all around stops from 40 to 0 in , oh, a mile or so it seems. I'm thinking of fabricating some sort of lever assy that would rub on the tire tread to help slow it down. ( disc conversion pieces are being gathered as we speak)
It is a bummer that the dude got off, ricers are becoming a major problem here also. just what is the daily bag limit on them...?
In Ohio, if it is a minor person ticketed; the prosecutor can amend the charge right in the courtroom and try them on that in front of the magistrate. Think you beat a speed ticket; then its curfew violation; then its wreckless operation etc etc etc. They won't let it go; you get something. The police will remember the individuals involved also: taillight, muffler, window tint, loud radio; they haven't got away with anything.
