My buddy's 56 has a 351 and he gets about 15 mpg. I've heard some guys say they can do 20, but I think it depends on the rear end ratio. John

I've went about four months on my last tank of fuel and I still got a quarter tank. I attribute it mostly to my world class tuning skills.

I have a 1988 302 EFI with an AOD tranny with a 8" rear end with a 3.40. I get right about 21 -22 MPG in my 55'. I have a rear mounted gas tank from a 1980 Ch#$y Van and I am running 215/65R 15 tires all the way around. Hope this helps

Need a lot more info. Rear gear ratio? Injected or carb? Tire size? 3 Speed or OD trans? All can make a huge difference. I have driven carbureted 302s in heavy vehicles that barely got 12 MPG, 18-22 MPG might be typical for an injected 302 with an OD , conservative tires and gears. With the non-aerodynamic F100, 20 would be an achievement. Sounds like Tacson is dialed in very well.

Like 'fenders sez, there are variables. I'd say you were looking at somewhere between 12 and 20 depending on those variables. If I can get 15 on my carbureted 350 with 2.20 rear gear and automatic, I'll be a happy camper. How are gas prices in Norway...$3-4 a gallon?

F250Rob is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.F250Rob is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Here's an example of how NOT to do it:

272 Y-block with 4 barrel carb, 3 speed no overdrive, 4:88 rear end, stock wheels and tires....the whole thing nets me about 8 mpg!!

Oh well, at least the truck sounds cool.

Hey Rob, you know one of the problems with having too much power in these trucks is that the rearends loose traction because of no weight. I bet your traction as well as your trip range would increase with an auxilary 40-gallon tank mounted in the bed. John

you guys are right , you need more info on truck for accurate measures, fact is i dont know yet , just trying to find out what to expect before i get the truck home .
the price for a gallon of gas in norway (95 oktane unleaded)
is 4-5 dollars or 8.50-9.50 NKR pr litre.(this is the cheapest oktane) add over a buck a gallon for super 98.

As other respondents have stated, rear end ratio and overdrive on the tranny will all seriously affect your mileage. My 2003 F150 with 5.4 l and 3:55 rear end with AOD gets about 19 on the hwy at cruising speeds and 12-14 in town. It's much more aerodynamic than the F100 and the Fuel injection should help too.

Now ..smiles per gallon is incredibly high with the F100 because it always gets smiles and finger pointing

OR
is it laughs and funny grins?

Oh well I just smile and wave back !

From the outhouse

Get your hands on an injected 302 if you possibly can. You can count on 25% better fuel mileage and often more.
