I think Valvoline oils are pretty good. I really don't care for All Climate though, as flashpoints listed on the Valvoline tech sheets look poor for All Climate. I am using the Maxlife, which has 12-22% synthetic per the MSDS data. New full synthetic Maxlife is hitting the shelves in stores across the nation as I write. I was told it would be in my area Feb/Mar.

I was just in NAPA today and they now have a house brand full synthetic for under $3 a quart and the high mileage for under $2 a quart, can't remember the price exactly. That sounds like a good deal. Valvoline is their house brand supplier.

I use Valvoline syn in my 94 F250 460 that I tow an 8,000# trailer with. I have used the oil since 36K and now have something like 86K. I would estimate about 20K+ is towing in all kinds of temps with nasty hills.

So far so good and no complaints.

I have used Mobile 1 since 1980 with no complaints. I used M1 because Valvoline didn't have syn back then. I was very happy when Valvoline came out with syn since I liked Valvoline dino in the 70s.

Good Luck,

Is the napa house brand the exact same thing as valvolline, or is it just made by valvoline. Is the synthetic an ester based syn or just hydrocarbon?

NAPA oil = Valvoline, not sure about your other question.

78fordman,

Valvoline synthetic is Group III, based on a read of the MSDS a while back.
