I have a 1985 Ranger 4x4, 2.8 liter V6. I went all over town today looking for the right thermostat housing. The housing they kept showing me would not work - the bolt pattern was wrong. The FORD OEM Part# on the old Thermostat is 837F-9K457-DA. Can someone tell me where I can get one?
I just bought the truck, but the guy I bought it from mentioned that Ford put a new engine in it at some point - something to do with the warranty. I do not know if that is true or not. I do know that it came with a 2.8 in it. How can I tell if the current engine is a 2.8?
Okay... I had Ford look up the casting number on the housing and this is their response.
"The casting number you supplied us with goes to a part # of E3TZ8592P which is listed as fitting the 2.8l manufactured before 12/84, the number changes if manufacture date is 12/84 or later. None are available from Ford, but you might check the aftermarket's 1984 listing."
