Transmission Gauge--Necessary and where does it connect?

I am the new owner of a 2000 X. Would you recommend the transmission temp gauge and how easy is it to install (where does it hook in).

How long is a Severe Duty Motorcraft filter good for?

I hope these aren't juvenile questions but I'm new to the PS and I want to operate it correctly and safely.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

if its an auto i would recommend it, for a stick it would be nice but not really necessary unless doing major mods... on my e4od there is a small port on the middle of the drivers side of the tranny, just above the pan. i believe it will be in the same location on your x's tranny. hope that helps
