Timing

My truck is set at the 6 degrees for the timing.I have a 360 2 bbl. I want to get more power out of it. Should i advance the timing a little or leave it as is?

Bump it up to 10-12 degrees. As long as it does not knock or ping under acceleration it will be fine. Running higher octane gas will help when you up the timing.

I usually run 89 grade in mine. It does not run for anything on the cheap stuff.

Thumbs up

I have found that alot of distributors are not getting enough centrifical advance. Most engine run good at around 36 degrees of total advance (at 3000 rpm) so if you set your base timing at 12 then you would need 24 degrees degrees of centrifical advance and alot of the distributors I have dealt with have around 16-20 so that would put you in the high 20's - 30, not enough to get any performance on the bottom end. You either need to get some timing tape for your balancer or an advance style timing light (my choice) and set the light to 36 and have someone hold the throttle at 3 grand and put the timing mark at zero (with the advace on the light set to 36) and then go back to idle and check to see what your base timing is, subtract your base # from the 36 you set it to and thats the amount of centrifical advance your distributor is giving you. You may need to have your distibutor recurved if your base is to high, you run into a hard start problem with to much base timing. Hope that helps.
