Just curious are the exhaust systems on the Super Duties Stainless?? If they are it must be a cheap grade because my exhaust is rusting pretty bad. The Borla I had on my Bronco looked almost new even after 4 years on the truck no rust just some discoloration.
It's my understanding that it is, as you suspected, a stainless... but not the "good" kind. Just look at it as an excuse to get a nice aftermarket cat-back system. Of course, as many problems as you've had, you'll want to wait until the warranty is over so they have no reasons to give you grief.
It was my understanding that they used aluminized steel. Am I wrong? Let me know. Also, stainless can mean a lot of different things as there many different alloys....
I replaced the factory exhaust with a Gibson looking for a little more performance and better sound. I got neither.
Also, and this is kind of my fault, I did not get the stainless Gibson system. After being on there for 13 months and 8000 miles, and never seeing snow or salt, the system is rusting badly. Where the seams are on the muffler is is really rusting, and all down the seams on the pipe are rusting. I will definetly replace it with a Borla next time.
Are you sure it was stainless? Maybe they sent you aluminized steel by mistake? Im troubled to hear this as my heart has been set on the Gibson Dual Sport catback sys. I have been wondering if should get the stainless or not as it is about $150 more than aluminized steel, now im wondering if i should go Gibson at all.
What I meant by saying I did not get the stainless is that I was too cheap to pay for the stainless. I'll admit that was my fault. But either way, after that few of miles in sumer weather, it is very poor shape.
Even if it had stayed in good shape, I still would not be happy with the performance and sound. It sounds almost exactly like the stock exhaust.
I have been researching the various cat-back systems for a while. What I have found, for the money the Gibson side swept system is the best bang for your buck. Go with the duals or the sport truck and the performance drops off. I agree, go with the stainless. There are some really good systems out there that you can spend a lot more money on, but the V-10 exhaust sound takes getting used to no matter what you do. I grew up on big blocks and glass packs, and it just isn't the same.
