#47
I have a 2004 F350 doing the same thing.....does anyone have any information? I have taken it to 2 tranny shops and the ford dealership in town and I've been told 3 different things....taking advantage of me being a small, young, woman? I THINK SO!! lol

I just recently had to pay $3200 for a new transmission on my 2000, F-250 4x4 Super Crew. I only have 44,000 miles on it.
The transmission was slipping and when I brought it to the Ford servicing dealer, they said that the transmission suffered a complete meltdown. I talked to all of the people at the servicing dealer, even the top brass, the zone manager and the Ford Customer Relations Dept. All of them told me the same thing. They said that I am responsible becuase, I did not get the transmission fluid changed at 30,000 miles. I was also told that it because I was out of warrantee. In doing research on the net, I have found tons of sites that have mentions of problems with this 4R100 tranny. I am trying to get enough testimonials and information to take them to small claims court or if enough people are interested, persuing a class action lawsuit. If you have had a similar situation like this, please let me know. I will also have my website ready in about a week for everyone to see and leave comments. Customer service is not job one at Ford.
Thanks,
Vince

I had mine built though, I was not about to spend good money to re build the weak stock ford transmission. I had 6 pin steel planetary's to replace the 4 pin aluminum ones, a whole new tail shaft to replace the weak stock reverse set up. Shift kit and a huge cooler as well as a triple disc billet aluminum converter that locks up in 2nd 3rd and 4th.
So you should have changed the oil sooner, yes, but it still would have went out. It is a weak transmission in stock form, it needs to be built up. Fords are notorious for weak transmissions.
Dont waste your time or effort trying to get anything out of ford, your out of warranty and out of luck on that one.
If you had it rebuilt to stock specs, be aware it will happen again. I found a guy who manufactures billet parts to fix all the weak spots in the 4 R 100 transmission.

weak ford transmissions
My truck (2003 f350) started to grind, mechanics say it needs complete transmission replacement (not salvageable). I got it from a dealer new (in 05, go fiqure). Extended ford warranty was approx $5000 but was 6 years or 150k This will cost over $5000 to fix
My question(s).
The truck has a faint noise when releasing the brakes at a red light, or a dead stop. Is it possible for a truck to be able to drive (at highway speeds with a 2 ton load) but also have a transmission in need of a complete replacement?
The warranty was 150k or Jan 2011 whichever came first, should they not give a me a break since it only has 75k on it and it's only 30 days over (but 75k under the mileage limit set by them)? (not really a question is it, but more of an opinion, sorry)
Upon checking the service records (always done at same dealer) they didn't perform the transmission service mentioned previously in the forum. If they didn't follow the maintenance schedule why should I be held accountable for the weak transmission they manufactured?
REASONS I AM MAD
This truck was in for service in Nov 2011. the complaint was a noise coming from the front center of the truck (would this not be where the transmission is located), and failure to start when cold. They replaced the brakes (pads, calipers, everything, for a couple of grand $) when it only had a complete brake job less than 30K. as for the cold start, it says on the work order they cannot create the conditions required to test for a cold start, that it should come back in jan/feb. (after the warranty runs out) the warranty statement is not on the bill, that was my statement to them at the time.
I'm in need of another truck very soon and if they screw me on this i guarantee that it won't be a ford. The Dodge has never cost me as much as this truck (it's the same 1 ton diesel as the ford, but with the Allison tranny) and is double the mileage and it's only needed maintenance...i like the ford better, but i'll vote with my wallet depending on the outcome of this.

I don't have an answer for your problems, but I'm really curious where you found a shop that could install an Allison trans in a Dodge. That would be a lot of difficult work since Dodge never installed an Allison in their trucks.
