all right im considering of pulling out my old 352 and am not sure if i want to rebuild or buy another. First of all will a 427 or 428 fit in a 66 F-100 with standard 4spd? how much do they cost if you buy them remanufactured? What kind of power do they make?
finally will 352 heads fit on a 427 or 428.
A 427 will bolt in anywhere another FE came from. 352 heads will bolt on to a 427 and work but you will take a hit in performance as the valves and ports are much smaller. 427 heads will not bolt onto a 390 of 428 as the valves will not clear the bores. You can't really buy a reman 427 or 428 anywhere as they are pretty hard to find. 427 are very expensive and I could only see buying one if you needed to match numbers or make some serious power (600+HP). The 428 block is also kind of hard to find but they are still out there. I have never seen one in a boneyard or I would have one. Check this site out. www.dscmotorsport.com
352 block bored .050 over, pick your internals for up to and over 430 cubic inches.
A 410 could be made reasonably cheap compared to a 427. You just need 428 crank and rods and 410 pistons (piston may need to be custom depending on your over bore).
You can get some nice torque and HP numbers. And not pay for a 427. 427 blocks that need work go for up to $2000 on Ebay.
I takes a significant financial commitment to put a 427 in your vehicle. Bottom end 427s go for around $6000. But thats only the beginning. Fuel, cooling, ignition and drivetrain system upgrades to fully utilize it can match the engine costs. This is not meant to discourage you, only to make you aware of what the realities are.
In fact, if it were me, and I was building a project truck, I would go the 427 route.
