New old truck rearend

I just bought my 16 year old son an 88 f150 custom reg/short with the 4.9 I6 and 5sp man tranny......AWESOME truck but I'm curious about the rearend.....posi, limited, ratio? Any ideas?

Hey, if it doesn't have that rearend tag on it then about the only way to be sure what's in it is to open it up. The tag is just a little tin piece that is held on by one of your cover bolts and has your ratio and some other codes on it. An 88 f-150 should have the Ford 8.8 rear end, but gear ratio and limited slip will be different from truck to truck.

Take a look on your Federal Sticker and look for your axle code

F-150 to F-350 OPEN REAR

12= 2.73
18= 3.08
19= 3.55
25= 4.10
27= 3.73
29= 3.55
35= 4.10
39= 3.55
49= 3.55
65= 4.10
69= 3.55

Trak Lok (Limited Slip)

H5 = 4.10
H9= 3.55
B5= 4.10
B9 = 3.55
C5= 4.10
C9= 3.55
D5= 4.10
F5= 4.10
F9= 3.55
