Angry Help with installing a Trans filter

I have a 95 Ford Windstar, I bought and the guy I got it from has kept everything up to date maintenance wise. He told me It was due for a transmission fluid change. I have seen this done before and I am fairly competent at auto work. Anyways I took off the drainpan cleaned it up removed the old filter but I am having a problem installing the new one. It looks like it needs to be pushed in but I can not get it to slide in. Is there a trick to getting this thing pushed up in there.

Please help. Thanks

Make sure the old gasket is not stuck in there. I have had the same problem. Usually it fits really tight and takes some pushing and twisting.

Ok thanks. I made sure I got out the old o-ring but it is a very tight fit. Should it take a lot of pushing and twisting to get it in there, in other words are they usually that tough to get it in. I am still working on it taking a braek and eating some lunch.

Banjo5150,

You shouldn't have to push hard enough to break the filter or damage the o-ring.
You probably already have done this but, make sure you lubricate the o-ring and that the Auto Parts Store didn't give you the wrong filter. I have had them put the wrong filter in the wrong box before.

Good luck

OK I still have not gotten it on. The filter I got looks just like the old one. Now my question is could it be the wrong filter. Could the end on this filter be incorrect and it is a little bigger. I can compare it with the old one but the old o-ring was left up in orifice and I had to pickit out. So i DO NOT KNOW THE SIZE OF THE ORIGINAL o-ring. So could there be just a little difference in o-ring sizes to cause this not to go on?

Also is the o-ring that is on the filters are they metal with rubber around them or is it just a rubber o-ring. Because the new filter I got seems to have a metal type o-ring with rubber wrapped. So I am trying to figure out when I picked out the old o-ring did I leave the metal piece up in there. Is this making any sense?

Well I got it in there, I left part of the old O-ring in there. I picked out all the rubber part but I left part of the metal in there. Got that out and the new one slid right in there.

Thanks
