for you guys who have modded your speed density setup trucks and are leanin out above 3500 rpms, have any of you went w/ 30lb injectors to fix the issue? just curious, cause im startin to do mods to my truck and thought about going that route after headers, k+n, exhaust, and efi cam, and fpr.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can just add bigger injectors without making adjustments to the computer calibrations. I know for instance with my LS1 (not SD), when I went with bigger injectors, I also had to have my computer recalibrated.

I've been wondering if adjusting the fuel pressure could be used to dial in the SD EFI. From what I've found here it sounds like there is a Mustang adjustable fuel pressure regulator that fits the SD injector rail.

The questions are: does increasing the fuel pressure richen the mixture? Does reducing the pressure lean it out? Or does the computer just compensate and put it back where it started?

yeah, the fpr for the 94-98 mustang is suppose to be the one that bolts right up. i also have two mustangs, both with adjustable fpr's and they do help fine tune more power when adding small mods, headers, cold air kit, that sorta thing. i did see a discussion on here before where a guy installed headers, exhaust, k&n cold air, and some other mods and doing all of that leaned out his truck. he put a fpr on it and turned it up about 8-10 psi and saw a big improvement. i know my truck is stock, not for long, and it runs kinda lean from the factory. when i install my mods, i plan to run an air/fuel ratio gage to try an tune it to the best ratio. its a weekend driver, so im not really worried about gas mileage. hope this helps.

also, yes increasing the fuel pressure richens the mix. the pulse injection width programmed in the computer will stay the same, it will just shoot with more pressure, kinda like turning a 24lb injector into a 26 or so, depending on the pressure. there is a fine line when you can go too high on the pressure and instead of spraying, like its suppose to, itll start squirting and you dont want that.

one more thing, flatlanderracing.com has injectors for 460's. click on fuel injectors, then click on accel injectors, and scroll to the bottom and you'll find em.

Degrees on the XE 262 Cam?

Hello borin&strokin,
I know it has been years since you posted about the cam you put on your 460. I just built my 94 460 EFI and dropped it in my 1971 F250, using the same cam you got. XE-262. but my question to you is, what is the degree you left it on? I am having a little trouble with this. I ether leave it to high, or to low were it stalls.

I'm really looking forward to the dyno #'s when the time comes, the mill should be a monster, yet still decent fuel mileage and driveability.
Our trucks are not exactly equivalent (mine being carb'd) but I did run the the 228/238 cam (Crane 359351) and found the power band too high for my liking. On a street/off-road driven truck we want the power at low rpm (torque) and don't see or need as much on the upper rpm range. I switched to the 216/224 (p/n 359341) and find it a much better cam for our heavy trucks.

BTW - Scotty at Reincarnation is the man to go to. He'll set you up correctly.

I 'll add my two cents. With the SD ignition setup, you can go with a mild cam and open up the exhaust some. I considered doing a MAF conversion but the price is more than I want to pay.
My plan is to open up the exhaust behind the y-pipe. Use a comp-cams/34-255-5-camshaft, this is the cam these guys recommended. it is about what you can use without making the truck unhappy.

Thanks for the info. I noticed that comp says.. Requires machining on cylinder heads. Standard weight and lightweight retainers, Adjustable valve train required, Use screw in studs & guide plates. May require longer pushrods.

How much of this is true? And what is everyone running?

You must be looking at another cam. 34-255-5 Just mentioned matching springs and new lifters. That's how I remember it.
